Why does my dog follow me everywhere?

This is one of our most popular questions!

Dogs follow their humans around for several reasons, most of which stem from their pack instincts and strong bond with us. Here are some key reasons:

Pack Behavior: Dogs are naturally social animals that stay close to their “pack” for security, comfort, and companionship.

Attachment and Bonding: Many dogs are highly attached to their humans, especially if they’ve bonded closely with one person who provides their food, care, and affection.

Curiosity: Dogs are naturally curious and like to stay involved in whatever their human is doing—after all, you’re their whole world!

Reinforcement: If following you around results in rewards like attention, treats, or petting, dogs learn to repeat the behavior.

Long story short, if your dog is following you are YOU ARE LUCKY! Every day with our dogs is a gift. Enjoy every moment!

Why does my dog roll in dead animals? This is a common question we get at Dog Krazy.

This is a natural, if unpleasant, behavior for dogs. Here’s why they do it:

Scent-marking: Rolling in the scent allows dogs to leave their mark on prey, making it a part of their territory.

Masking their scent: Inherited from wild ancestors, dogs may roll in strong smells to cover their own scent and approach prey more successfully.

Showing off: Some dogs like to “brag” to their pack by bringing back strong scents they’ve discovered.

Attraction to strong smells: A dog’s sense of smell is incredibly powerful, so intense scents (even unpleasant ones) can be very attractive to them!

How to help prevent this behavior: Watch for signs like intense sniffing, use cues like "leave it" or "come," and keep treats or toys handy to redirect them. Avoid areas where dead animals may be common, and you’ll have a cleaner, fresher-smelling pup!

It all started with a Bulldog

Dog Krazy was established in August of 2006 when Nancy realized she wanted to spend every moment of her life with her Bulldog, Piglet. Piglet is the inspiration behind Dog Krazy and the love that Nancy has for her is the reason you can walk into any Dog Krazy location and know that everything you see, feel and touch is only the best for your beloved pets. Piglet passed away in 2016 but her memory will live on through Dog Krazy.
