The Eagle Has Landed!

We arrived in PEI late this afternoon after a breathtaking drive through Maine and New Brunswick. Stunning scenery including forests and ocean vistas for as far as the eye could see.

We truly live in a beautiful country.

The dogs did well even though they’re a little wild tonight. A 3 day road trip will do that to you. 🥴

For those that aren’t aware, I am in PEI to judge the Canadian National Master Hunt Tests along with Tracy Griffin from BC and Geoff Plouffe from Manitoba. This is a huge honour as a Judge and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. This is a 5 day National Event that will hopefully produce many new National Master Hunters. We’re looking forward to seeing some great dog work in the next week.

So stay tuned as I will start posting pictures of our journey over the next 2 weeks.

Well, Day 1 of the road trip to PEI is in the books.

We decided to drive through the States rather than brave Toronto traffic. What a fabulous decision that was.

Easy crossing at Lewiston. Yup we had dogs and yes they asked for CDC Forms but it was easy peasy.

A beautiful drive through rolling hills and the Adirondack Mountains. Great scenery and an easy drive. No cities, no construction to speak of and no back ups.

Off the road by 6:30 in Springfield, Massachusetts , a quick dinner, exercise the dogs and now just a quiet evening. BTW, one of THE NICEST Red Roof Inn’s
I’ve stayed at.

I hope I haven’t jinxed us for the last leg of our drive tomorrow.

😂😱🥴🥴🥴

Great opportunity and a great cause.

This is what we need now.

This is what we need now.

Updates to CDC’s August 1 dog importation rule: If you are bringing a dog into the US from a dog rabies-free or low-risk country, you now only need to fill out the simple CDC Dog Import Form. Technical issues with this form have been resolved. Be sure to fill out the form in order because how you answer each question influences what you see in the other sections of the form. Other forms are no longer needed for these dogs.

The requirements for dogs arriving from high-risk countries have not changed, and these dogs are still required to have additional documents. Read the full requirements: www.cdc.gov/dogtravel

While Trip was working on SH in Manitoba, brother Portobello, Tealgrove’s No Truffle at All, (Shelby X Roscoe), has been training hard and ran his first JH test on Saturday at Longpoint. Suffice to say, Porto and Emma did a great job and are on their way to a JH Title.

Congratulations Emma and Porto!!!

Idgie, The Bee Charmer of Tealgrove SH WCX, placed Third in the LOC Qualifying Stake in Puslinch today.

Idgie now has a 100% finishing rate in Field Trial this year with 2 placements and 2 RCM’s.

Congratulations to Dave Wardle (1st), Chris Mason (2nd), Ron Stiff (4th) and Craig Biasi (RCM). Great competitors each and every one of them.

Thank you to Judges Connie Swanson and Larry DeLeemans.

Thanks to the members of LOC who worked to put this trial together and never get the acknowledgment they deserve.

And finally thank you to Sandie Bond of Dovetail Kennels for training and handling Idgie to all of her accomplishments. We couldn’t do it without you! 😊

Some types of blue green algae can be toxic to dogs in tiny amounts with symptoms appearing and progressing quickly.

CDC Dog Importation Update for CKC Members:

In addition to the Member update we e-mailed out today, we have just received a further update from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The CFIA is currently unable to endorse export documents for dogs to the U.S. because they are still in discussions with the CDC regarding the process.

Big Doings for a couple of Shelby kids and Tealgrove Retrievers this weekend.

Tealgrove’s Joyful River Gem (Shelby X Storm), “River”, went two for two in Junior Hunt this weekend at Mountain Valley. One more pass and River will be a JH. Congratulations to Kelsey Verboom Stockdale and Steven Stockdale.

Tealgrove Spirit of Brigg’s Lake SH WCX (Shelby X Topper), “Briggs”, got her first Master Hunt pass today at Mountain Valley and is on her way to her MH Title. Briggs has been playing in Qualifying as well as Hunt Test. Congratulations to Barbara Drewry.

As for Big Momma aka Shelby, well…she didn’t have a great day and decided she preferred to be self employed rather than be part of the Team. Enough said.

And finally, Idgie came into season yesterday so we had pull her from the tests today.

Congratulations to all and a huge thanks to Sandie Bond of Dovetail Kennels for her continued support of the Tealgrove Retrievers and her fabulous training program!

Shout out to all the Shelby kid owners!

It’s hot and it’s humid. It’s not fit for man or beast.

Please be extra careful in this heat with our Shelby’s kids.

Leash walks should be kept to a minimum. Hot sidewalks will burn pads. Keep the kids on the grass and walk early morning or late evening. A walk at noon is NOT ON!

If you swim your dog that’s great BUT in this heat the water is not as cool as you may think. DON’T throw balls or toys for hours into water. I personally know of two dogs who died of heat exhaustion by owners who did just that. Please use caution and common sense. Just don’t do it.

Don’t crate your dog wet. This is the perfect storm for hot spots. Dry as best you can and let them air dry. Check behind ears, neck, groin, bum and tail for any weeping skin stuff. If you find it, OFF TO THE VET YOU GO!

For swimming dogs, dry ears inside after swimming. If black yucky stuff is present or a lot of head shaking OFF TO THE VET YOU GO!

Where you swim your Shelby kid is important too. BLUE GREEN ALGAE is toxic and a killer. Shallow ponds that heat up and farm ponds are two of the main culprits. Educate yourself about Blue Green Algae. Choose safe clean ponds, pools etc. for swimming.

And finally…..

LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME while running errands in your vehicle. Just cracking a window is not enough. I beg you, DO NOT LEAVE our Shelby kids in a hot vehicle.

Let’s get through this awful heatwave together and keep EVERYONE safe and comfortable.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
