Therese Mitchley Racing

Therese Mitchley Racing Horse Racing Stable in Summerveld, KwaZulu Natal Therese started working for her father, Russell Laird, as an assistant trainer in 1981.

Permanently closed.

She learnt her trade from the best and during the early years worked with some of the equine greats of the time, including Lindberg, Gun Drift, T**a Inca and the big chestnut filly, Novenna. Later her brother Charles joined the family buisness. In 1995 Russell Laird retired and Charles took over as the trainer. This was also at the time of the family's most successful inmate, the liver chestnut,

National Emblem, a son of National Assembly, who Russell had picked at the 1993 National Yearling Sales. 15 wins later, and unbeaten in 7 starts up to 7 furlongs, he really was their champion. Therese then worked for her brother as an assistant trainer until 2003. After an absence of 8 years, Therese returned to horseracing as an assistant trainer to Yogas Govender at Summerveld in May 2011. The next chapter has now begun - Therese' trainer's licence was granted this month (November 2013) and she is now hard at work building her own string of horses.
