FRIDAY, I'M IN LOVE: Well, if age is just a number, as "they" say (I'd like to know who exactly "they" are, but I digress) then Kashmia and I (Aly) can both be 10, right? Nope, "they" are very wrong. Forty years between us is 40 years. And I may soon have to take riding instructions from this whippersnapper! Be that as it may, Kashmia had an awe-inspiring lesson on Jubari, no less, from Heather, and then we went to visit the giraffe, zebra and buck of Haga Haga Horses. I rode the delight and comfort that is Jet, and Heather led with Suki. What a way to start the weekend. No one can beat that!

What a perfect Saturday ride with Haga Haga Horses. Charlie and Gus were super and Heather says I'm improving - yay. All this was filmed by Davin Drone, and the horses didn't spook or anything, even when they could see and hear it. What a fabulous day in the spectacular village of Haga Haga!

To say that I am immensely proud of these girls would be an understatement of epic proportions. They have grown from clueless, needy little pip squeaks to confident, competent, thinking riders. All in the space of less than 18 months! The love, care and passion that these 3 young ladies show for their beloved ponies is heartwarming. I see so much of my horse-obsessed younger self in them.
I'm so grateful to have had the privilege of teaching these special girls and watching them grow, and to have them and their moms as part of the Haga-Haga Horses family ❤️

Haga Haga Horses had a fantastic time at OppiePlaas Country Estate on Saturday! Despite the gale-force winds, our horses handled the new scenery like the champions that they are. And what a special ride it was, with 3 generations partaking: mom, daughter and grandpa.
We rode across (thank you, Mike Arnold, for making sure we got there safely on the public road) to Oppieplaas then had a beautiful trail ride on the farm, followed by lunch at the restaurant. With very full bellies, we somehow all managed to mount up again and get our steeds home. What a great day for everyone 😎🦄

SCHOOL HAS BEGUN: Savuka had her third lesson with a person on her back on Friday. She didn't seem concerned at all and between Heather and Nicky, she's well on her way to joining the big boys for outrides!

T'WAS A NAILBITER: Muffin was underwhelmed at the prospect of having her hooves trimmed by Nicky and Heather, but even if you're just a cute little pony living your best life, you still have to put up with the odd irritation or two, while X-Man and Astro watch the procedure suspiciously.

Mega appreciation post for my mare of the moment, Ms Suki Sunshine. Beauty and quirks abound, and I wouldn't change anything about her. She makes sure that I'm present and in the moment (by informing me that I'm riding like an idiot), and my ADD brain is so so grateful for that.
If you come across what look like giant sidewinder marks in the sand of the Haga-Haga beaches, just know that Ms Suks has been having a jol. She loves to keep her rider on their toes, making sure that they are using their seat and legs, then hands as an absolute last resort; what a teacher she is. But put a child on her back and she melts into a push-button pony.
Buying Suki was a spontaneous decision - those are often the best ones - and I'm so glad that we decided to bring her home with us.
