The Jersey cow is a delicately built animal known for its exceptionally high quality milk, which has a high solids content and is the ideal milk for making cheese, butter and other dairy products. Jerseys are efficient converters of feed into milk and are cheap to keep in comparison with other dairy breeds. Their gentle tempers and people-loving dispositions make them the perfect house cow, but these quiet animals are also outstanding commercial producers - either as part of a Holstein herd for raising the butterfat and protein content of the herd's milk, or well able to stand their ground in a herd of their own kind.
