Rabies has a fatality rate of almost 100% in humans and animals alike🤓, it remains a global🌍 threat, killing approximately 59,000 people every year. Dogs are the main reservoir of the disease. Controlling and eliminating the deadly zoonosis means, therefore, combatting it at its animal source.

JULY & AUGUST are GERIATRIC KIDNEY months @ Southbroom Vet!!

We are running a special for all our OLD but GOLD patients (Large Breed dogs 8 years and older & Small breed dogs and cats 10 years and older) for early kidney disease detection. This appointment will include a urinalysis and a blood test using our state of the art blood analyzer for only R350.00.

Chronic Kidney Disease affects about 1 in every 10 dogs and 1 in every 3 Cats.

CKD is defined as any abnormality of one or both kidneys that has been present for several months.

Your pets' kidneys are vital to removing waste substances from their bloodstream and maintaining the balance of fluid and minerals within the body. If the kidneys can’t function properly; the result could be life-threatening!

Common causes of kidney disease & its progression includes:
- Age
- Nutrition
- Genetics
- Dehydration & Illness

Signs of serious illness only appear after 75% if kidney function is already lost, so the sooner kidney disease is diagnosed, the more time there is to address the underlying cause or slow the disease’s progression. CKD is progressive and irreversible, but we can help with early detection and long term care.

Signs of kidney disease:
- Increased thirst
- Frequent or no urination
- Decreased appetite
- Weight loss
- Bad breath or a sore mouth
- Lethargy or weakness
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Constipation
