The Canadian Eskimo Dog is called ‘Qimmiq’ by the Inuit. The breed proved popular with Arctic explorers and earned a reputation as a sled dog that could pull the heaviest loads over the greatest distances on the least amount of food.

It has a long association with humans and is a gentle and affectionate companion. The breed can be overly responsive to any stimuli and are best suited to an adult household. It is important to note that the breed does not adapt well to temperate climates.

The Boston Terrier is an American creation originating in the city of Boston. Today’s Boston Terrier resulted from a blending between an English Bulldog and a white English Terrier around 1870, followed by a further combination with French Bulldogs.

They are highly active dogs, sturdy, bold and playful. Some Bostons may get feisty towards unfamiliar dogs. They are highly intelligent but may be stubborn at times. Consistency and positive reinforcement are the best teaching methods, along with socialisation and training from a young age.

They are a fun family dog and are equally at home with people of all ages. Being clean-cut with little to no doggy odour, they make an ideal house companion.

Registration on the Dogs Australia national pedigree database occurs after the pups are born and is the responsibility of the Breeder. The Breeder must hold a Breeder’s Prefix (a registered Kennel Name issued after completing education requirements) and must be a current financial member to register a litter.

It is a requirement that all puppies are identified with a microchip prior to registration and, for some breeds, there is a requirement to submit health-testing results for both parents with the litter registration application.

Once accepted, every puppy in the litter will be issued with Pedigree 'Papers' confirming their registration, listing their microchip number, s*x, colour, breed as well as displaying a three-generation family tree.

Important! Registration with Dogs Victoria/Dogs Australia is different from Local Council registration required by Victorian state laws and is also different to registration of the animal details on a licensed microchip registry.

Carrying around a toy or two is not surprising. Although mischievous at times, they are obedient and make a loyal companion.

It is quite incredible to believe that the ancestors of the dainty Pomeranian were the early spitz breeds of dogs descended from wolves. He hails from the province of Pomerania, now part of Germany and Poland. As the tiniest member of the Spitz family, Pomeranians also have a shared ancestry with Keeshonds and Samoyeds and similar Arctic dog breeds. The patronage of Queen Victoria made them extremely popular and desirable thus cementing their reputation as one of the most popular Toy Dogs.

Pomeranians are incredibly intelligent and relish learning new things. They are outgoing, loving, playful, loyal, energetic and effervescent personalities.

Owing to the breed’s miniature size and high energy levels, the Pomeranian is not recommended for families who have very small or boisterous children. They are ideal companions for elderly people or people living in units and flats because they are loyal, extremely intelligent and do not require too much exercise.

As suggested by its name, the Border Collie had its origins in the border country between Scotland and England. The breed can be traced back in excess of 300 years. Introduced into Australia in 1901, and despite not being an “Australian Breed”, it is recognised that Australia is the Country of Development for the Border Collie.

Intelligent, athletic and faithful, with a desire to please, Border Collies are very much “people dogs”, but boredom through being left alone all day may result in the dog finding things to occupy its time which may not be to your amusement.

Borders are a suitable breed for someone who is prepared to exercise them on a regular basis. The breed grows quickly and may be a little too energetic for very young children or elderly people. Active adults or older children make more suitable owners for this breed. As with all dogs, young children and dogs should never be left unsupervised.

The Lowchen is referred to as a ‘little clown’, whose greatest intent in life is to entertain anyone willing to watch and play. The Lowchen is a friendly, healthy and happy dog. He is active, playful and highly intelligent.

The Lowchen is a small, bright, and lively dog, from pre-Renaissance Europe where ladies of the court groomed him in the likeness of a little lion.

Lowchen are a low shedding breed, but their coat requires significant and continuous care. Show dogs have long coats with hindquarters and a portion of their tail clipped as well as the forelegs and toes. If you would prefer a charming pet clip, you can have your Lowchen trimmed short all over approximately every 8 weeks.

The Lowchen is a friendly happy dog who is good with all family members and other dogs. They love walks, toys, car rides and being the centre of attention. Lowchens make an excellent house pet and can live in any type of accommodation from pad to palace.

The Bichon Frise was extremely popular and much doted on in the times of French Royalty. Dogs resembling the breed appear in paintings of the 17th and 18th century in the company of Lords and Ladies. When the French Royalty fell from favour, so too did these little dogs.

The Bichon Frise is a charismatic character in every respect; he can be a clown or a snuggle blanket. He is the most comforting little dog to live with. They are happy to go for a walk or run, enjoy a game, or just chill out on your lap. They are one of the most affectionate and loving little dogs one could ever own. The Bichon is a character exuding love, happiness and joy.

The Bichon Frise is a curly coated breed, which has minimal shedding. The coat needs to be thoroughly brushed 2 to 3 times per week and bathed every week or so.

The Bichon Frise is suitable for anyone who wants a fun and loving companion, provided you are prepared to do some regular work maintaining their coat. They are suitable for people with allergies as they are considered to be low allergy dogs, but if this is a concern for you, make sure you spend some time with a Bichon Frise to make sure he is suitable for you.

Bull Terriers (Miniature) were developed from a blend of the English White Terrier and the British Bulldog during the 1800’s.

The Mini loves nothing more than being part of your “pack”, whether this is gardening, hanging out washing, walking or watching a movie. Often, they are not aware of just how strong they can be and should be supervised with children under 10 at all times. They can be destructive when left alone in the home for extended periods. They need good training, such as obedience, a structured environment where rules are provided and positive consistent leadership. They must be well socialised to ensure a good temperament around other dogs and pets. This inside/outside dog will benefit best from a decent walk, on lead for 30 minutes per day.

The Bull Terrier (Miniature) has short, slightly coarse hair, which does shed a little. They will benefit from a good brush or wipe over with a rubber mitt once per week and bathing only after a romp in the mud. This easy coat care breed has one caution: Mini’s have a propensity for sun-baking during summer, so a good quality sunblock should be used on the belly and nose!
This breed is suited to active families who enjoy having a dog involved in their day to day lives. They can be tolerant of other pets but do need boundaries, training and to be appropriately socialised as pups.

First records of the Beagle can be found more than 2000 years ago in ancient Greece but the modern breed was developed in Britain in the 1830s

A merry hound whose essential function is to hunt, primarily hare, by following a scent. Bold, with great activity, stamina and determination. Alert, intelligent and of even temperament.

Beagles are a bold, alert and intelligent breed with an even temperament and a merry disposition. The breed is amiable and alert and needs plenty of company as it quickly becomes bored if left to its own devices. Due to its stubborn nature, some believe the Beagle is difficult to train, but the breed is great with children and people of all ages.

The Basenji originated in Africa. DNA studies show that they were one of the earliest established dog breeds and have had very little genetic change through time. They are highly intelligent and extremely curious, quite mischievous, playful, and will make you laugh.

They are affectionate and caring with those they know but may take time to get to know strangers and have very quick reflexes, so they may react if challenged or taken by surprise. Similarly, they might not take kindly immediately to other dogs.
Basenji are sometimes known as barkless dogs, but have various sounds such as a howl, growl and yodel. They are also known for being very clean with very little doggy smell, and groom themselves like cats, so are well suited to live inside. The puppies are playfully destructive and need to be raised with patience, love and a sense of humour, and training through positive techniques and consistency.
