Hi everyone, sadly I will be permanently closing my salon at the end of this month. Unfortunately my body is no longer up to the hard physical work of grooming, due to ongoing knee and back issues. I have had such wonderful clients and precious pups, and I will miss you all very much. Thank you all for your ongoing support over the last few wonderful years, I have enjoyed being your groomer. Much love to you all, Lisa.

I will post details of another great groomer in the area for you shortly.

Lifting Your Dog the Right Way Is Important 🐶

Picking up your dog incorrectly can cause stress and discomfort, which may not always be noticeable, since many pets endure distress without yelping or crying. Here are three mistakes people still make when lifting their dog.

I discussed the right ways to lift your dog based on their size in today’s free pet health article: https://bit.ly/3bZQFae

***RAPID ANTIGEN TEST WARNING FOR PETS***

A chemical called sodium azide, that can be found in trace amounts in some COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) buffer solutions, may be toxic to animals if ingested.

The risk is greatest for small animals such as puppies, small dogs, cats, kittens, small mammals, and birds.

As Rapid Antigen Test kits become part of our lives, please ensure you take the care to keep them out of reach of animals and dispose of them properly to minimise the risk to your pets.

Please call your veterinarian or contact the Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738 urgently if an animal has ingested even a small amount of the buffer solution.

You can find other COVID pet care information on the RSPCA’s Knowledgebase here: https://kb.rspca.org.au/?s=COVID-19&ht-kb-search=1&lang=

Hi everyone, unfortunately I will not be grooming for the next 8 to 12 weeks (depending on recovery) due to knee replacement surgery. My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

With the hot weather back AGAIN, we thought we would give you a quick reminder about some tips and tricks to keep your pet cool as a cucumber through this heat wave!

🐾 If you are going out, leave your mate at home with plenty of shade and water available!
🐾 Make sure multiple bowls of water are available - you can even add some ice to cool it down!
🐾 Give your pocket pets like rabbits and guinea pigs a frozen water bottle to keep themselves cool!
🐾 Do not walk your pet in the heat of the day, keep walks for early mornings or evenings when the pavement has cooled down!
🐾 Provide a shell pool filled with water for your dog to cool themselves down!
🐾 Bring your pets indoors if possible!
🐾 Do not put your dog in the tray of a ute - the metal can burn their skin and paws!

❌ NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A HOT CAR ❌
Temperatures in a car can soar well above the forecast in just a few minutes, even when the car is parked in shade and windows are down.

Do not leave your dog in a hot car. If you see any dogs in cars over the coming week, please make a cruelty report on 1300 278 358 or call the police.

ARE LAUNDRY CHEMICALS AFFECTING YOUR PETS’ SKIN & HEALTH?

If you wash your pet blankets and beds using popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets, that “just washed” fresh smell comes from chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact your pets’ health (coughing, rashy, itchy pets, anyone?).

Dr. Anne Steinmann’s UW-Seattle research team found more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents using these products, including well-known respiratory irritants like Acetone, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, but also Pentane (which causes skin rashes and upset stomach), Ethyl Acetate (on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list; causes anemia, changes in white blood cells and can damage the liver and kidneys), Benzyl Acetate (can be absorbed through the skin and is linked to pancreas problems) and Alpha-terpineol (causes headaches and nervous system disorders).

Our pets can do without having to breathe in these chemical residues or having to lay on them, so here’s our Forever Dog Tip of the day: replace chemical-laden fabric softeners with a non-toxic DIY option!

Recipe: Mix 6 cups white vinegar with 1 cup baking soda, let it fizz. When the fizz stops, pour mixture into a large glass container with a lid. Use 1 cup per load of laundry.

We highlight all of the of home chemical risks that can negatively impact your dog’s health in the The Forever Dog book, available now for pre-order by clicking here: https://foreverdog.com/about/ -window

To all my valued clients:

Please note that my prices for all major services will increase from next Monday (existing confirmed bookings will be honoured at current pricing). Prices will be updated on the website and Facebook by Monday.

The new pricing is reflective of the current local market and unfortunately, due to increases in the many costs of running a small business, I am no longer able to absorb these costs as I have in the past.

I pride myself on the quality of my grooms and the love and care I give to all my doggy clients, and I sincerely hope for your continued support.

Thank you, Lisa

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT brought to you by the very handsome Gryff:

There have been several recent outbreaks of PARVOVIRUS in both Southern & Northern suburbs.

Keep an eye out on your furbabies and most importantly vaccinate them to give them to best chance.

Here are symptoms to look out for:

Some of the signs of parvovirus include lethargy; loss of appetite; abdominal pain and bloating; fever or low body temperature (hypothermia); vomiting; and severe, often bloody, diarrhea. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration, and damage to the intestines and immune system can cause septic shock.

AT ALL TIMES, SEEK URGENT VETERINARY CARE.

Stay safe Puppers 🐾

Is your dog constantly licking their paws and pads?

I see many dogs come into the salon with this problem, and it can be distressing for both the dogs and owners alike. This can be caused by a number of things, however one of the most common and yet least realised causes is contact allergies from our environment.

If you regularly walk your dog in parks or the like, the chemical fertilizers and pesticides used on the grass can irritate your dog's paws. This can also occur at home if your dog plays on your recently fertilized and wet lawn/garden.

Try changing your walking route, or keep your pet inside after using pesitcides and fertilizers etc. and see if this makes a difference.

Other common causes of licking, include matted fur between the paw pads, along with prickles, grass seeds or other foreign objects between the pads and toes. Check your pet's paws regularly and your groomer can easily remove any matted fur.
