I have been very slack at keeping social media updated (aiming to do better!), however, it's been a cracker of a year thus far. A number of students have stepped up levels/heights/grades and are doing fabulously, & reaching personal bests already this year.

I'll try to post updates more frequently, until then here is a photo of one of my St Aidans riders beautiful conmemara pony at the SEQ Regional Championships.

Until I next post, Happy Riding!!

It was great to be back coaching my St Aidans team at the first Interschool Queensland Equestrian competition of the 2024 season.

A big thankyou to Stuartholme for hosting a wonderful two days of Dressage and Showjumping.

Congratulations to all riders who attended, (I saw many lovely tests and jumping rounds) & a special congratulations my St Aidans riders who achieved PB's, great scores and who were an absolute pleasure to coach!

Bring on 2024 🐎

💥SOLD! 💥

Von Vosen Showscay,
17.1-17.2hh rising 9year old Thoroughbred gelding by Show a Heart.

Marlin is an absolute sweetheart who is on the hunt for a new home through no fault of his (junior rider is in grade 12 and his owner is very time poor with full time work and a young family). For the past 4 years Marlin has been exclusively ridden and competed by a competent 16year old young rider under the guidance of an EA Level 2 Coach.

Marlin is competing solid prelim level dressage scoring in the high 60% range in both interschool and EA competitons and is now ready to take out at Novice level. He has big movement and covers the ground, he moves like a warmblood and is a big horse with elestic paces.

Marlin has competed in showjumping at 80-90cm, training over 115-120cm at home. Marlin has a big jump and a good amount of carefullness with a clean action. When in full work Marlin is bold in his jumping, however he does need regular jumping sessions to maintain his boldness. After time off from jumping he can be a little cautious when returning to showjumping (as such he is not recommended for a beginner or nervous rider).

Marlin loves cross country and has shown to be bold and forward in his limited cross country schoolings, he has happily schooled over water, ditch and brush fences, with a little more education in this discipline he could make a fabulous Eventer as he has a huge ground covering stride and a big clean jumping technique.
Marlin is stunning in looks with a big blaze, 3.5 white socks and a rich golden chestnut colour, he travels straight and would definitely stand out in the showring.

Marlin is always ridden in snaffle bit and is easy to shoe, handle and happily travels on a standard straight load float.

A sad Day - Thank you to Show a Heart for the wonderful temperament he passed onto his foals.

Our own boy Von Rosen Showscay (who raced as Showscay) is by Show A Heart and his a absolute sweetheart with talent and such a kind nature.

Glenlogan Park is sad to advise that one of Queensland’s truly great racehorses and stallions, Show A Heart, was humanely euthanized late last week at the age of 25.

Welcome to the family, Cleo (Sarjon Park Valkyrie) an 8months old Friesian X Clydie filly.

Cleo travelled from Murringo NSW to Brisbane with just a couple weeks of handling and her first trip away from her herd. She travelled very well and walked off the truck like a seasoned competition horse - a testament to her breeding and temperament!

I can't wait to see what the future holds for Cleo and I. We all absolutely adore her, she is very quiet with the sweetest temperament and just wants to be part of the action with us.

Now to wait 2+ years for her to grow!

Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.

2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. Which leads me to…

3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then your not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. Which brings me to…..

4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in awhile….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themsevles opportunity to practice.

5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what your AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. Which brings me to...

6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.

7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than you ever will while riding. That's why ground lessons are important, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.

8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.

9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others). People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that the process to get good is not an easy one.

*thank you to whoever wrote this! Not my words, but certainly a shared sentiment!

EQ Fundamental Series

The EQ Fundamental Series includes educational videos to support Equestrian Queensland (EQ) members and all equestrians on their journey of mastering the foundations to successfully re-train an ex racehorse.

This project has been funded by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission - QRIC through their Racing Animal Welfare Grants Program and will support the promotion of "life after racing", training and opportunities for new careers and enhance welfare and safety. The EQ Fundamental Series initiative will promote high quality health care to retired race horses on their transition from the racing industry.

**SOLD **

Von Rosen Klub of Hearts is a true 17.2hh 12year of TB gelding, he is well educated at novice training elementary level Dressage (walk-canter, should in & travers are established), 1.10/15m jumping and has cross country schooled over 1*/2* fences, Klub is stunning and has won a number of showhorse Championships with limited exposure to this discipline. He is up to date with Hendra Vax, teeth, tetnus/strangles, is EA life registered, and only wears front shoes (he has good feet).

Klub is talented but quirky, he is NOT for beginners, nervous or the inexperienced. He is a big off the track thoroughbred (retired from racing late 2014) with big elastic movement and an active brain that needs to be kept busy. He is best when in consistent work with consistent routines & consistent rules.

Klub is my personal horse although I have used him to coach lessons on with my more experienced riders. Klub has been to many clinics, training days and competitions, he shows talent and receives many positive comments. Klub does have separation anxiety and frets/paces if he is not paddocked next to another horse/s or if the horse goes out of sight. He is fine paddocked in a herd or by himself but must have horses next to him. He is also best in cross-ties when being tied up. In cross-ties (even very loose) he is a gem, when tied by 1 lead rope only he will untie himself, pulls everything in reach onto the ground, or will pull back if left for a longer periods (he will stand quietly in cross-ties though). At a competition he can not be left at the float by himself, he will get up to mischief or untie himself and go exploring. At competitons he needs to be yarded or have someone (person or horse) with him.

Klub has a sweet and cheeky personality, he wants to be with you and he wants to be involved and doing things. He loves hanging out with my 4year old son, loves helping to 💩 pick the paddocks, he will let himself into the feed room to hangout with you - he really is a sociable fellow! He is fine with all aspects of farm life including, tractors, machinery, busy main roads, loves to go trail riding, sheep and cattle. The busier the action going on around him the happier he is. If you are building something he will be right there in the thick of the action - concrete mixers etc fasinate him.

Klub is currently out of work due to my over commited busy lifestyle and is bored in the paddock. He is being advertised as is out of the paddock out of work. If I am lucky Klub will get 1 - 2 lunges a week at best currently through no fault of his own.

He is in excellent paddock condition, he is always rugged (he has a glorious coat), shod with front shoes and gets fed hard feed and hay twice daily. There are photos & videos of Klub on my page Von Rosen Equestrian

More videos in comments (please note he has always been ridden by experienced riders/student).

We are taking EOI/Submitting of offers, he is NOT free - I am negotiable to the right home. It is important that Klub only goes to an experienced rider/handler who understands his quirks, as such if you are interested in him please message me outlining your experience & facilities. Please do not be offended if I do not feel Klub is right for you, as I expressed above he is very talented and equally as quirky and needs the right type of home/rider/facilities etc. If I had a consistent timetable and time to ride consistently he would be staying with me - I have owned him since 2015, sold him to a client when we moved interstate and then purchased him back (2years ago) - I am attached to this horse and the right home is an absolute must.

Please direct message me or contact me on 0439 788 352 messages/comments may be missed.

Bit late to the party with my coaching wrap up of IQ State Championships for 2022 (that's what happens when you go straight from States ino Toowoomba to family holidays ay the snow and come home to a backlog of work to catch up on!) 🤦‍♀️

I am so proud of each and everyone of my riders, both my St Aidans riders and individual students. As with horses there are often curve balls thrown at us, however each one of my riders handled their individual challenges extremely well! Overall placings are as follows:

Elmi - Reserve Champion Prelim Dressage
Phoebe - Reserve Champion Showjumping 90cm
Gracie - 3rd Combined Training
Emily G - 7thh Novice Dressage
Matty - 4th 60cm showjumping
Bethy - 5th Eventing 60cm
Livy - 5th Eventing 95cm
Sarah - 11th Dressage & 16th eventing
Eliza - 17th Prelim Dressage

My St Aidans team came 4th overall in the Eventing team placings with Sarah, Bethy, Livy.

Students Gracie, Elmi & Phoebe recieved their golden tickets to represent QLD at the Australian Interschool National Championships in Sydney later this year!

I was nominated for the IQ Above & beyond award, what an honour! Congratulations to all others that were nominated for this award, many very deserving names on that list and I was honoured to be named along side these amazing people.

Thank you also to the hard working IQ and State organising committee, without whom these events simply would not be possible. As always it was a wonderful well run event for our junior riders.

A great opportunity for a Prelim/Novice or Novice/Emelentary rider to participate in the Peter Shaw masterclass as a demonstration rider.

With the bonus that there may be some capacity to sign off assessments for current EQ member currently completing their EA Horse Riding Assessments.

Riding in the wet, cold weather that we have been subject to recently in QLD is not fun. In fact, it's down right miserable, and let me tell you riding in wet sticky jodhpurs is anything but comfortable!

So when I get a message from a student who has braved said weather to go out and compete, it makes me especially proud to be their coach.

I'm proud of my students for their dedication to the sport and to their craft. When a student wins their first Champion rug in these miserable weather conditions it's even more special - well done Emily Galvin and Tom! What a wonderful effort and results.

Shout out to Em's parents who also had to brave the weather, I'm sure they would rather a weekend off and to enjoy a warm cup of tea rather than standing in the rain and mud!
