Animal shelters across Brisbane and Ipswich have seen an influx of dogs affected with Parvovirus and hold concerns there could be a second strain of the deadly virus.

Parvo has claimed the lives of 22 pooches alone at the Animal Welfare League Ipswich Community Vet clinic.

Vets say there is no vaccine available to protect animals against the second deadly strain.

Parvo can be spread by animal fur, feet, clothing, tools and even flies, and can live for up to two years on grass and other surfaces.

Redbank Plains Veterinary Surgery vet nurse Nikki Dempsey (pictured with Sarge) said she wouldn’t rule out another strain given the number of cases circulating the region.

Any dog displaying symptoms such as diarrhoea, lack of appetite or looking depressed should be taken to a vet immediately for the best chance of survival.

The heat is here. It is a typical full-blown Australian Summer. Help your pets handle it: Wet/Saturate several old towels and freeze them. Once frozen place in the cool spots of your house where your pets like to lay. They will love their new icy beds, & it costs nothing. I have 4 out and 4 more freezing.. My cats think its great.

INFORMATION WANTED: SERIAL PET MURDERER KILLING DOGS: @ WARNER, MORETON BAY REGION OF BRIS, AUST. Five dogs killed by baiting with radiator coolant (antifreeze) since end of August. This is sickening, frightening and heartbreaking. if you see anyone acting suspiciously in this area PLEASE CONTACT POLICE ASAP.

CATS: During spring, cats often begin moulting/shedding alot of their winter coat. They often groom themselves more than usual too. This can lead to furballs in their stomach, most of the time they can expel these furballs. However to help them along, especially older cats, its a good idea to smear some cat laxative on their paws. If cats can not expel furballs successfully, it can lead to poor nutrition due to your cat being unable to eat properly, or worse: infections that, if left untreated, can result in illness & death.

Summer is well on her way. Tick season has already begun. To date my local vet has treated 46 dogs for paralysis ticks. Remain vigilant. Sometimes a tick can be crawling over your pets skin for several days before it imbeds. If your cat, dog, pet has any time outside or mingles with others,bear in mind that ticks can seeminlgy appear from nowhere & are often very hard to find... It ony takes one...

Alphadog Animalarmy

Husky red female (yard 7) at Canberra pound (Mugga Lane) in urgent need of a home. VERY URGENT!
She is not desexed and ended up at the pound after being tranferred from the R$PCA
Please do your research before you adopt a husky - they are a running dog, with a high prey drive. They need to be on leash when out of their secure yard, as they have little or NO recall.
A husky is not suitable for those with cats or small animals - more so a rescue dog, as one never knows their history.

Several good reasons to go RAW. Can not fathom how we openly slaughter an Australian Icon. Isn't the kangaroo on the Coat of Arms??

Lily was a rescue. I saved her when she was only 6 months old and days from dying of malnutrition and starvation. Today she is a happy, healthy 9 year old.
