Very sad day Thursday - we lost our beautiful black hen affectionately known as Black Girl - original I know but she really was everything an Orpington was meant to be for us and there is a now a huge hole in that yard. I was in Sydney and Bethany found her after school, fine in the morning and dead in the afternoon 😢 black comb - maybe she had a heart attack? Will keep working on replacing her 😢

Beautiful little blue girls, one has just started laying, other a little way to go. Need to work on eye colour with the Pullet that is already laying but she has dark eyed mother and back to dark eyed rooster we should get some dark eyed babies. She is lovely hen in all other areas ❤️

Expressions of interest being taken for some White Orpington Cockerel’s hatched from eggs that came from Victoria. Cant keep them all 😢 They are the most beautiful, delightful natured birds - very tame and would like to find them a breeding home 🐓 also have some Buff boys that are carriers of white recessive gene.

Both new yards are now set up to help the chickens deal with the heat this week 😁 also hopefully help me retain the grass that is in there!

Best chicken nesting box as voted by Orpingtons and Pekins - large flower pot with plank of wood for stability and to hold in the nesting material. Just picked up this pot for $6 at Bunnings, scrap wood offcut, some tech screws and hay. Cheapest and most used on our property 👍👌

First of the back yards to contain the chickens is complete 😁 Thrilled with it, though the chickens are not impressed, no more free ranging all over the place and stashing their eggs, or bolting to the mulberry tree in the morning to eat what the easterlys have blown down overnight! Can finally be more selective in my breeding pens!
