Puppy Pre-School is BACK! 🐾🏫

Southside is so excited to be doing Puppy Pre-School again and we cannot wait for all of your pups to come bouncing through the doors! 🩷

What we offer 🐾
- Basic command training eg: sit, drop, wait
- Dealing with puppy behaviours such as jumping, chewing and barking ect
- Toilet training
- Crate Training/ Conditioning
-Enrichment

We are pleased to announce we have had the wonderful Hoi from Petmama Grooming move into clinic with us. 💗

Hoi was originally neighbours with our team at VetLove Kuraby however due to the same reasons as them, had to move house!

If you’d like to enquire with Hoi, please don’t hesitate to ask our team.

If you have a booking with Hoi please ring the door bell found on the far left door of the clinic, from there Hoi will greet you and take your little one in for a pamper 🐾

Food & Enrichment Toys! 🐾🩷

Enrichment is important as it mentally stimulates your pet and challenges them to think, learn and problem solve.

It can also be beneficial for pets with certain behavioural issues as it can help reduce boredom and anxiety…. Think destructive behaviour, barking & pacing around.

We have attached some basic enrichment ideas below, used by Nurse Cameron on her own dogs at home.

Items used include Kong classic toys & licki-mats. You can also use ice cube molds as shown to make pup-sickles! 🍭

*Remember, moderation is key.
Food enrichment should never replace regular meals, it’s best to use part of your dog's daily meal allowance to prevent unwanted weight gain!

If you're using food as rewards, make sure they’re pet safe and always keep an eye on your dog to prevent accidents or choking.*

Have you met Monique?! 💗

Monique started with us in February of 2023, she is our core receptionist & helps conduct the rest of our reception team. She is the friendly voice when you call and the smiley face your greeted by as you walk into our clinic ☺️

Mon has been in the animal industry since 2013. Starting off in pet stores and dog grooming, she then decided to take on the role of puppy school instructor & also worked in doggy day care centres. This is where she found her passion for dog obedience training, which she started in 2019. 🐾

Mon says although the puppy cuddles are certainly up there she can’t quite put her finger on her favourite part of working at Southside… she says she loves all of it! She loves chatting and getting to know our clients & patients, especially all of our amazing regulars who stop by but she also loves the learning aspect, no day is ever the same. 🤩

In Monique’s spare time she loves spending time with her friends & family, watching Harry Potter over and over and getting up to anything crafty.

* Did you know Mon actually has her own business, Bear Necessities, where she makes handmade pet apparel and enrichment toys. Some of which can be found in clinic 🧸

At home Mon has her beautiful fur baby, Yogi Bear.
He's a German Shepard x Maremma x Saint Bernard mix who is about to turn 11 years old & is her absolute world!
(Ask her about him and she’s your best friend 🤭)

We are so appreciative to have Monique as part of our family, she is always going above and beyond for not only our clients & patients but also for her fellow team members! 🩷

Jasmine came in to see Dr. Stephanie regarding one her K9 teeth after sustaining an injury but never fear, Dr. Stephanie to the rescue!! 🦸‍♀️

It was an absolute pleasure looking after Jasmine and we cannot wait for more of her special cuddles!! ☺️

Meet Dr Carina Christensen 🩺

Carina is the Vet Director of our Southside Clinic as well as the Head of Veterinary Education & Mentoring across VetLove! 🩷

Having graduated from the University of Queensland in 2005 Carina has a deep passion for helping patients, clients and colleagues to achieve the best outcomes.

This is shown through a strong focus on helping veterinarians and support staff to thrive in order to competently & compassionately care for our patients and their families. She is deeply passionate about mentoring & supporting a healthy work culture in order to mitigate the risks of mental health concerns such as burn out.

Carina also works hard to raise awareness about the public perception of the veterinary profession as it can be very challenging at times.

At home Carina has a beautiful domestic shorthaired cat named Fifi who she adopted from the RSPCA 8 years ago 🐈‍⬛🐾

In her spare time Carina enjoys being in her garden immensely, saying she could spend hours out there pottering away 🤭

Besides from this she says her favourite thing to do is spend time with her two kids, as well as her family & friends both here in Australia and in her birth country Denmark! 🇩🇰

She enjoys travelling, bush walking & exploring new places. Reading books & nerdy veterinary texts as well as watching movies, something she says is favourite past times of hers 🤩

We are incredibly proud to have a lady of such calibre helping support not only our team but our clients and their pets, delivering gold standard care to each and every animal she meets.

Meet Alesia! 🐾

Alesia has been in the animal care industry since 2018 taking on many different roles. From starting her career as a kennel hand within an emergency clinic, working along side breeders and rescues to help in raise and train dogs to even living on site at a wildlife retreat, working with a variety of animals such as dingoes, monkeys, snakes and better yet… being up close and personal with lions and tigers!

She joined our team at Southside in 2023 and is currently completing her certificate 4 in vet nursing! 🩺

Alesia says her favourite part of the job is how much there is to learn. From learning how different parts of the body function to monitoring patients during procedures, caring for wildlife and more. Alesia feels she has already learnt so many new skills and knows that each day will bring a new opportunity to learn!

At home Alesia has two dogs. Pascal, her family dog who is a Papillion cross who will be turning 12 this year. And Nessie, who is a beautiful almost 4 year old Border Collie 🥹

In her spare time Alesia loves getting outdoors and going to camping whenever she can 🏕️

Meet Dr Lauren Blundell 🐾

Lauren has been apart of the Southside family since February of this year! 💕

Working as a veterinarian for over 9 years Lauren says her favourite part has to be working in general practice as it allows her to make minor ailments better. She says her favourite thing to do is help fix your pets problems! 🥹

Lauren is a huge asset to our team as she not only treats cats, dogs & guinea pigs but she also loves to treat our avian friends.
How lucky are we!! 🦜🦆🪶

Lauren has her own flock of chicken at home consisting of one Pekin Bantam called Nutmeg, one polish Bantam aka Cardamom who is pictured below, as well as two Belgian duccles called Fennel & Paprika! 🐓

Save the date - We’ll be at Woofapalooza!! 🐶

Come along as we team up with CrossFit Taris to help raise money for Helping Paws Adoption Program 🐾

Helping Paws Adoption Program is a registered not-for-profit charity with the aim of saving cats and dogs who need that extra special care. With the help of volunteers and donors, the rescue works hard to save as many precious puppies, kittens, dogs and cats as possible.

There will be a work out of the day (wod), coffee van, market stalls, dog washes, professional pet pictures + more.

You can even meet some of the adoptees from the rescue!!

Oh my goodness!! 🩷

Introducing Chino, the 4 month old English Bulldog 🐾

This squishy, ball of love completely stole our hearts. Not only is he just a baby but he's a baby weighing in at a whooping 19.4kgs 🤯🏋‍♂️

Chino came in to see Dr Carina for his 3rd puppy vaccine and he was by far the bestest boy! 🩺 It's crazy how much growing this young man has left.

We asked Mum if Chino had any funny quirks 🤔

We found out that apart from being a natural rollie pollie potato, Chino also LOVES water!!! 💦 I wonder if we'll see Chino competing in the Olympics with his backstroke🏅

Meet Dr Stephanie Bell! 💗

Stephanie has been apart of the VetLove family for over 4 months now.

Having graduated from the University of Queensland with honours in 2023, she holds an incredible wealth of knowledge and a strong passion for veterinary medicine.

Steph says she loves working as a veterinarian as no two days are ever the same! From 1st vaccinations to senior wellness checks, surgical procedures to hospital cases, radiology to dentistry.. she’s keen to tackle it all.

On top of this she also holds a special interest in feline medicine!! 🐈🩺👩🏻‍⚕️

Stephanie recently became a fur mum to her own darling cat, Avalanche, who is pictured below 🥰 Yes, she’s cute but at only 6 months old, Steph will tell you she can get up to all types of mischief! 🤭

In her downtime Stephanie enjoys staying busy with creative hobbies such as sewing 🧵

We absolutely adore having a vet like Steph and know that you and your pet will too! 💗
