The warm months have said a blazing hello🔥

It's important to remember our pets during these hot months and know how to keep them cool and avoid things such as heat stroke ❄️

Signs of heat stroke:
🔥 Restlessness
🔥 Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
🔥 Drooling, often very thick saliva
🔥 Change in gum colour - dark red, pale, purple or blue
🔥 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🔥 Lethargy or collapse
🔥 Dizziness – are they struggling to walk in a straight line?
🔥 Muscle tremors
🔥 Seizures
🔥 Unconsciousness

How to prevent heat stroke:
🩷 Never leave your pet in a car regardless if in the shade
🩷 Avoid exercise during the warmest times of the day (9am-3pm)
🩷 Ensure there is plenty of cool water and shade available. Clam shell pools are an easy and fun option
🩷 Never leave pets inside hot, closed homes or garages
🩷 Avoid walking pets on hot sand, concrete, bitumen, or any other surfaces where heat is reflected
🩷 Keep your dog well hydrated with easy access to water/ multiple water bowls

She was very brave for her dental scale and polish, routine blood test and dental x-rays recently! 🪥

GO GEMMA GO!! 🩷

Meet Gemma,

Unfortunately darling Gemma had a battle with a deadly paralysis tick. She came to us lethargic, unable to walk, regurgitating, dehydrated and extremely flat.

Dr Mel treated Gemma with antivenin & multiple days in hospital for supportive care.

We are please to say Gemma is well on her way to a full recovery.

Ticks have already created havoc in and around the darling downs and claimed many victims this season. We strongly urge our pet parents to stay on top of their Veterinary recommended parasite prevention.
