Wondering if your dog might be pregnant? 🤔
Here are a few signs to watch for:
🐶 Changes in appetite: Your pup may eat more or less than usual.
🐶 Behaviour shifts: She might become more affectionate, or seek solitude.
🐶 Physical signs: Look for an enlarged belly, swollen ni***es, or weight gain.
🐶 Nesting behavior: Some dogs start preparing a cozy spot for their future pups.
If you suspect your dog is pregnant, it's always a good idea to consult your vet for confirmation and advice. 🐾

Having a plan for unexpected events or natural disasters in your area is crucial. Don't forget to include your pets in these plans!
🐾 Ensure safe transport for your pets:
Use sturdy carriers for cats, birds, and small pets. Get them comfortable with it by regularly placing them inside with treats and praise.
Crate train your dogs for easier movement.
For older or arthritic dogs, have a carrier, dog-specific backpack, or small wagon ready.
Stressful situations can agitate even the calmest pets, so opt for secure, covered carriers.

Aretha came in with a very swollen right eye and watery discharge. The eye itself wasn’t visible, but we could feel the eyeball under the eyelids and confirmed its presence with an ultrasound. We decided to surgically remove the eye, and during the operation, we discovered a large, hard abscess the size of the eye inside the orbit, likely caused by trauma. The eye and abscess were successfully removed. Aretha went home with antibiotics and pain relief, and she has made a full recovery. She’s back to her clucky, happy self and enjoying dust bathing!

Did you know that guinea pigs require dentals?! Just like us, their teeth need regular care to prevent issues.
Guinea pig teeth constantly grow throughout their life, and if they are not being worn down by chewing on lots of hay or grass, they start to elongate. The most common form of dental disease in guinea pigs involves the elongation of their cheek teeth. The mandibular (bottom jaw) cheek teeth are often the worst affected, and they can get so bad that they can grow over and totally ‘entrap’ the tongue, preventing the guinea pig from eating properly.
Dr. Tiffany and Nurse Elisha recently cleaned Charlie's teeth, ensuring he's healthy and happy. Regular dental check-ups are crucial for our small furry friends to maintain their well-being!

Blood work can tell us a lot about your pets general health, and is also a vital procedure when diagnosing conditions and determining a course of action with an unwell patient. Our radiography equipment includes not only general xray, but also dental xray. This is extremely helpful in allowing us to get a better look at what lies beneath the gums of your pets mouth. It then helps our vets perform a more thorough dental procedure, so your pets can remain comfortable, healthy and happy!

It can be seen under a microscope with only a drop of blood from an infected dog. Mackay is known as Heartworm capital which is why it is so important to ensure your dogs are on adequate Heartworm prevention. If your dogs prevention has lapsed for periods or history is unknown, we can perform a simple blood test to determine if there is heartworm present. If it is positive, it can be treated! Please call our team on 4957 6992 to discuss prevention and if a test may be necessary.
