My love for Coreopsis started early. As a kid, catching glimpses of yellow splotches from the passenger window as we zoomed past. Then, I found out something about those flowers, you can’t find on the internet.

Folk lore.

We had an old friend in Sydney who had pretty impressive cred. He was a storyteller and an artist. His father was a political cartoonist.
After the war, he studied at TAFE with Margaret Ollie and “all” The Boyd’s, lived next door to Norman Lindsay in the mountains, restored Barrenjoey lighthouse cottage in the 50’s with some mates, had a thing for Australian cedar, “pulled all the cedar furniture out of the lighthouse well and restored it” he almost bought the beautiful old magnolia house in Maclean opposite the hospital “completely made of cedar” and….. he told me the coreopsis story.

The story of Arthur Stace. Or Mr Eternity. From the 1930’s-60’s Arthur spent his days with chalk in hand, writing “Eternity” across the city According to Bruen, Mr Eternity also spent time “up north” where he began collecting coreopsis seed and scattering it down the coast from his car window on his return journey to Sydney down the old highway. He knows this because he also held the starring role in a short film about Mr Eternity. Although Bruen Finey has now passed, thanks to him, coreopsis means much more than a few roadside wildflowers. Happy 100th heavenly birthday Bruen.

Not even one of my garlic scapes made it to market or my plate! Nope, no scape to plate this year! I am however, absolutely mesmerised by the unfurling, their starry wigs, like dancers on a stage, an e-scape from their confinement. Anyone else entranced by these? Or have I gone too far to the flower side 🤣

Broccoli microgreens. The weather’s been pretty nice for these babies. Enjoy them while they’re happening. Could be a bit of a weather shift soon which they won’t like. For now they’re perfect 🤩 only available at the Yamba Farmers Market.

A little ditty about my poppy love 🧡 and how it fits into the wider plant picture here on the micro farm.

Lou has featured in the Herbaceous Almanac for October.

There is something very interesting unfolding here in this online world of herbaceous plants.

If you love plants and their properties, I can recommend joining the sub stack. You can also have a read without subscribing. Follow the link on Lou’s profile.

Thanks Lou for asking me, I’m thrilled to see your enthusiasm reaching far and wide.

Calling all HERB lovers and makers of home remedies.
TEAS and TINCTURES

I have supply of Cal Poppy for a few weeks of the year (pending allowance by Mother Nature) and this week is one of those harvests.
They are beautiful whole plants including roots and extra flowers.
There are 2 sized boxes available.
Small
Large
The large box fits 3-4 times the amount of the small and I’ll include seed pack in that box to wild your own CP patch.

Posting Monday next week. Strict cut off time this SATURDAY tomorrow (for finalising)

The plants are sent straight after the mornings harvest. I use Aramex and include ice packs to help with the journey.

will be a featured guest on in the coming weeks in relation to this little Cal Poppy side flower love of mine. Stay tuned and in the meantime contact me via DM for more details about this Mondays harvest. Limited supply first in.
