Hi! I'm Thalia.
I have worked for Centenary Vets for just over 2 years, which was the start of my Vet industry career. I have worked in the Centenary suburbs for over 16 years, so I am very familiar with many of the Centenary Vet clients. I feel very blessed to work in such a family friendly, professional environment. I am not a Vet or Vet nurse but love working in the Vet Industry and love animals. My expertise is in Customer service, accounts, payroll, and administration.

We have a 4-year-old cat named Kiki. We adopted her a few weeks after I started work at Centenary Vets. She took a while to settle in but now she is a total snuggle bum. Throughout my life I have been lucky enough to have many pets, dogs, horses, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, a budgie, my sister even had a rat. Our Golden Retriever Emma had 10 puppies which was very exciting, however was also a distraction for me when I was meant to be studying for my year 12 exams! Our last pet before Kiki was a beautiful Staffy. She was full of energy, loyal and loved to be with us – all the time!!

I look forward to meeting all our clients and their fur babies.

Hi, I'm Nurse Caitlin.
I started my journey into the animal industry working at the RSPCA in the animal cruelty rescue hotline services. From there i discovered my passion for animal health and care and went onto work for The Animal Emergency Service whilst I studied for my Certificate 4 in Vet Nursing. Now at Centenary Vets going into general practice has been a wonderful and great learning experience for me. As a Consult Nurse I love to develop honest customer relationships and work with animals and their humans for the best possible treatment and care.
I'm passionate about education, prevention and animal development. When I'm not working I'm hanging out with my husband and 3 dogs playing video games and hanging out at the park.
I have 3 dogs

🐾😫 Is your pet experiencing tummy troubles? πŸ’©πŸ€”
Diarrhoea can be a common issue in pets, caused by factors like parasites, stress, allergies, diet changes, or infections. If the runs last for more than a day and come with vomiting, bleeding, or pain, it's important to bring your furry friend to the vet for a check-up. 🩺🐢🐱 Better safe than sorry! ❀️🐾

Hi Hi, My name is Cathy Atkinson, and I am one of the vets at Centenary Vet Surgery.
I have been a vet for more than 30 years, and I still love my job! During my career, I have treated cats and dogs in small animal practices in Queensland and England, worked in rural mixed practice in North Queensland, and also done some work with cattle embryos on client’s farms. I find the most rewarding part of being a vet is seeing the happiness that a pet brings to their family, and being able to contribute positively to that special relationship.
I have one fur-child called Samuel. He is a ginger domestic shorthair who moved in 14 years ago and claimed the house. We were allowed to stay as long as we followed The Rules! I also have two grown up children of the human variety. When I am not busy at work, I like to spend time with family and friends, sing in a choir and enjoy time in the great outdoors.

Did you know that cats and dogs can get diabetes? This cat is being treated by Dr Caitlin with a diabetes monitoring button connected to a phone app. This will help the owners monitor closely with what is going on with his blood glucose levels and alert them if there is a problem. Great work Dr Caitlin

Hi! I'm Dr. Georgia Gates.
I started working at centenary vet at the beginning of 2021 and have enjoyed my time, providing excellent patient care and building individual client rapport. Before graduating veterinary medicine, I entered the industry in 2012, working as a nurse whilst I completed my school and university studies (Bachelor of Veterinary Science). I am very passionate in what I do and am a big advocate for client relationships because owners are the voice for their pets needs. My special interests include dermatology and dentistry. I have aspirations to one day peruse a specialty in dermatology, but I ultimately love treating animals for all their primary care needs. At home, I have a rescue cat called Evie. She inspires me to improve my skills everyday so I can provide the best care to everyone’s own family pets.

Every animal is different. Many of them become quite anxious when they enter the clinic. I will always adjust my handling to fit in with your animal’s comfort level during their examination, ensuring that they are treated with the care, respect and gentleness they deserve.

Hi! I'm Tracey. My role in Centenary Vets is based in reception and practice management.
I am new to the veterinary industry after 20 years in Finance and Technology, with my last role being GM for a FinTech business, managing customer experience, lending and collections. Passions: Earlier this year I decided to take a break from my career and do something different. I love working with people and their pets and Centenary Vet Clinic is a great place to work, drawing on my customer experience background and providing fun and fulfilling opportunity to work with a great team. I have a passion for providing great customer experiences and building strong relationships.
Aspirations: I am currently studying for my Diploma of Counselling in my spare time and ideally I will then go on to complete my degree.
Outside of work: I love cuddles on the couch with my own pets (and my husband.. But usually I have one dog cuddled up on each side of me and our two cats on my lap lol). We also love to head away camping.

🐢Have you got a dog over 7 years of age?
Studies suggest that maintaining a healthy brain and body requires regular mental and physical activity. Short walks, hiding treats, new toys and a senior diet will help towards a long and healthy life.
Proper nutrition, daily exercise, and mental stimulation are important for a senior pet's overall health. Pets over 7 years of age that receive these 3 key factors have more energy and connect better with their families, leading a happier and healthier life.

You can book your aging pet for their annual monitoring blood test and FREE vaccination.
-T&C's apply to senior programs

Hi! I'm Dr. Caitlin Teuwen.
I’ve spent 15 years as a Veterinarian (in Small Animal Primary Care Practice) after graduating with 1st class Honours. A year of that has been spent at Centenary Vets. I have a strong interest in orthopaedic and advanced soft tissue surgery, abdominal ultrasound and internal medicine. I see myself continuing to work in Small Animal Primary Care Practice and would like to expand my skills to continue to help Centenary Vet Hospital clients and patients. I also have 2 young beautiful boys (3 years and 1.5 years) so I am kept busy outside of work as well!

21/05/2023

Rubber balls are our recommend choice.

Rubber balls are typically more durable and less likely to break apart, making them a good choice for aggressive chewers. They can also be more puncture-resistant and longer-lasting than tennis balls.

Tennis Balls Safe For Dogs?
Most dogs can’t resist the rubbery chewiness and fuzzy texture of a tennis ball, but are tennis balls actually a safe chew toy for your dog?
Tennis balls are affordable and come in multipacks, making them a tempting option when toy shopping for your dog. The possible adverse effects of tennis balls on your dog’s health may make you want to keep shopping, however. Let’s take a closer look at some of the major concerns around tennis balls as chew toys.

Enamel Abrasion
Did you know that seemingly harmless neon yellow fuzz on the outer surface of a tennis ball can act as a fine sandpaper on your dog’s tooth enamel? It’s true! One of the major concerns about dogs and tennis balls is this abrasive effect on the surface of your dog’s teeth. With excessive tennis ball chewing, it is possible for the material to wear your dog’s teeth down in a way that will permanently affect her oral health.

Choking Hazard
Your dog’s super strong jaws make it possible to compress a tennis ball, making it a choking hazard. The tennis ball can split apart in the back of the throat, blocking your dog’s airway. This can be fatal for your dog. The tennis ball can also break down into pieces as the dog chews, which creates a high risk that your dog will ingest those pieces. Pieces of the rubber can become lodged in the intestinal tractβ€”which is an emergency situation. Along with this, many dogs like to rip the yellow fuzz off of the tennis ball. Swallowing this fuzzy material can also lead to intestinal blockages that may require surgery.

Mystery Materials
Tennis balls are assembled in mass quantities on assembly linesβ€”in factories all over the world. There are no standards for the materials used in making these tennis balls, and we know the components used are definitely not certified food-grade materials. Because the balls are designed specifically for the game of tennis, they are simply made to be cheap and effective for the game. There are, undoubtedly, chemicals in the various components of the tennis ball, from the actual rubber ball, to the neon yellow fuzz covering it and the glue that keeps it all together. Many people are rightfully concerned about lead in tennis ballsβ€”it is most likely true that a tennis ball contains lead along with myriad other toxic materials. When your dog is happily chewing on a tennis ball, there is no telling what kinds of chemicals she is ingesting.

Please remember all toys should always be supervised and regularly check for deterioration becoming unsafe for your loved ones.πŸ•
