Does your pup get anxious in new environments? 🍁

Many dog owners think that exercise alone will keep their pup happy. But dogs get bored with the same smells, sights and sounds if you are taking them on the same walk or to the same dog park everyday.

Variety really is key to a happy healthy dog.

Here are a few tips to help mix up your pups routine;

~ Walk at different times of the day. Early mornings and later in the evening will bring expose them to different wildlife and passing different people if you walk the same path

~ Try exploring a new bush track, beach, creek, or even sporting field

~ Mix up their daily exercise routine with a little swimming. Swimming helps release stress, provides cardiovascular fitness, will help with weight reduction and management and is perfect for dogs with any injuries

~ New environments mean new smells, new sounds, and new experiences.

Perfect combo for a happy healthy pup!

Autumn 🍂

The dog days of summer are finally behind us and cooler weather is moving in. The leaves will soon be changing, sweaters are being pulled out of storage, and our dogs are more eager than ever to get outside and play!

For many pet parents, Autumn is the most wonderful time of the year – perfect for heading outdoors and enjoying life with dogs.

Where does your dog sleep when you go camping or on adventures?

I haven’t tried Kopa in a hammock yet but I think this is an awesome idea! He is obsessed with the kids large swing and I find him in it all the time so my guess is he’ll love the hammock too.

Looking out for the weekend. Must be close 😉
Although it’s school holidays and everyday is feeling a little like the weekend it’s still nice to look forward to Friday arvo.
We’ve created a little routine (by accident) where we go to a local brewery for a drink and ice cream. The kids can play under the trees and we can debrief on the week and celebrate our wins.
What do you do to celebrate all your wins. No matter how big or small they are?
This is such an important thing to do to keep you present and aware of how far you’ve come.
And wins can be small.. like reading the book you promised yourself you’d read. Or walk the pup daily. Or take time out for yourself by going to the gym.

Does your dog suffer from allergies?
I have seen increased posts on social media from dog owners asking for advice on how to treat allergies from plants/ grasses etc..
Here’s an interesting snipet from Holisic Hound, which explains the possible underlying problem.

It’s always better the treat the cause not just the symptoms 😉

“From a holistic perspective, allergies are not caused by allergens but rather result from an underlying imbalance in the immune system. The immune system must be compromised in some way for animals (and this includes humans) to be susceptible.

This means that allergy symptoms can often be eradicated by balancing the immune system using proper nutrition, supplements, and healing modalities like homeopathy and acupuncture. Until this rebalancing is achieved, preventing contact with allergens is key in helping your dog feel better.

Allergies in dogs can present as skin itchiness and irritation, gastrointestinal problems such as vomiting and diarrhea, and/or upper respiratory symptoms such as watery eyes, sneezing, and/or ear infections. Many holistic practitioners believe that if symptoms are left untreated or are suppressed through the use of drugs, they can ultimately result in more serious chronic diseases such as arthritis, urinary tract infections, and inflammatory bowel disease.”

As the weather starts to cool down it is the perfect time of year to get outdoors and explore. 🏕

🐕 Walking your dog regularly provides a basic foundation for physical and mental health. Like a child, your dog wants to know the world. If he or she is confined to the house for too long, your dog will get bored, and boredom can lead to destructive behavior.

🌳 Your dog is dependent on you to take them out to explore the sights, smells, and sounds of the world. This is why it’s also good to vary the places you take your pet as dog much as possible.

🏖 A fantastic mindset to have is to not think of it as ‘time to exercise your dog’ but more of an excellent opportunity to get you outdoors exploring more... together!

Does your dog need a little extra stimulation?
Does your dog have enrichment toys?
For those not familiar with the term, enrichment is any activity your dog finds innately satisfying.
So let’s think of all the things our dogs love to do—playing, chasing, fetching, digging, scavenging, sniffing, dissecting, ripping, shredding, chewing, licking, just to name a few. All of these behaviors are so satisfying for dogs because they are natural to their species. Engaging in these behaviors on a regular basis is not only normal, but essential to our dogs’ physical and emotional wellbeing.
Puzzles are great to have on hand and leave out for your dog when you head out for the day. Make sure you have several different types on hand a rotate between them, this will keep your dog interested.
Tip: try splitting your dog’s meal among several puzzle toys.
