Thank you to the wonderful owners of Sula who has progressed so much through her training. Her Family wasn't sure that she would ever be able to go near another dog again due to her fear and responses. This has been a huge turning point for Sula, and although she has a ways to go we are really proud of the gains her and her mum have achieved.
Way to go Sula.

๐พ Understanding Confliction in Dogs with Dr. Clay! ๐พ
Have you ever noticed your furry friend exhibiting behaviors that seem contradictory or puzzling? Your pup might be experiencing confliction โ caught between approach and avoidance.
๐ถ What does confliction look like? ๐ถ
Imagine a scenario: a stranger offers a treat to a fearful dog. The dog is torn between wanting the treat and staying away from the stranger. This internal conflict can lead to behaviours like approaching a few steps and then backing away, stretching towards the person but not walking to them, or even taking the treat and running off.
Other examples include growling while wagging their tail, taking a treat only to drop it, circling, or sniffing another pet but avoiding direct contact.
โ ๏ธ When conflict intensifies โ ๏ธ
In intense conflicts, aggression may arise. This can manifest as vacuum activities, displacement behaviors, or redirected behaviors.
Understanding these signs can help us support our furry friends better and create environments where they feel safe and secure. If you notice any of these behaviours in your dog, remember to approach the situation with patience and empathy.

๐พ Understanding Appeasement Behaviour in Dogs๐พ with Dr Clay Have you noticed your furry friend displaying appeasement behaviours? Appeasement behaviours in dogs are active information-gathering techniques that involve exchanging information in social settings. They have the ability to prevent, lessen, or resolve conflicts in a social setting. These behaviours serve as a way for dogs to communicate and maintain harmony in their social interactions. Understanding and recognizing these signals can help prevent conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence among our furry friends. ๐ถ๐ Appeasement behaviours can include lip licking, avoiding eye contact, rolling over, paw lifting, yawning, sniffing the ground, whining, and more! Remember appeasement behaviours are positive! It is a way to communicate! By understanding and responding appropriately to these cues, you can help your furry friend feel more comfortable and secure in their interactions. Here are some tips for supporting dogs displaying appeasement behaviours: ๐พ Allow them to approach ๐พ Approach them calmly and gently. ๐พ Give them space if they seem overwhelmed in social situations ๐พ Use positive reinforcement to build trust and confidence. ๐พ Consult with an animal behaviourist for guidance if you have any questions Remember, patience and empathy are key when addressing appeasement behaviour in dogs. By creating a safe and understanding environment, you can strengthen your bond with your four-legged friend. ๐ถ๐ #DogBehaviour #Appeasement #UnderstandingDogs #PositiveReinforcement #FPTA When does your dog appease? ๐พ Understanding Displacement Behaviours in Dogs ๐พ with Dr Clay Ever noticed your furry friend suddenly start licking their paws, shaking off, scratching, grooming or yawning excessively in a stressful situation? These are known as displacement behaviours, and they can provide valuable insights into your dog's emotional state. Displacement behaviours are often a way for dogs to cope with feelings of anxiety, frustration, or confusion. They are behaviours that are happening out of context! A dog shaking off when not wet! By recognizing and understanding these behaviours, we can better support our canine companions in times of stress. Next time you see your dog exhibiting displacement behaviours, try to identify the underlying cause. Displacement behaviours are good, as long as they are in context and helping your fury friend regulate! Remember, a little understanding goes a long way in strengthening the bond between you and your four-legged friend! ๐ถ๐ #DogBehavior #CanineWellness #UnderstandingOurPets When does your dog do a displacement behaviour? Does your dog do it once and then calm down? Let us know!
