Last night we cooked up the beef mini tenderloin from Handler Meat Rushcutters Bay by cutting it up into steaks, so easy and melted in the mouth. Topped with a garlic herb butter.

Such succulent beef! Absolutely divine.

Okay, we’ve eye-balled these for a while now – prompted by a few Hubsters and members who have tried them and have now developed a mild addiction to them!

The great thing about both the pies and sausage rolls is that they only contain real food ingredients: no emulsifiers, preservatives, colourings and e-Numbers. Just compare them to Four n Twenty meat pies…

Both the pies and rolls come in a range of flavours, and include vegetarian options. They can be frozen and reheated in the oven.

Our kindness boxes from the last three weeks. Our hub members suggested we make a kindness box weekly and gift it to a local person or family.

We have no shortage of extra produce to gift and our area has no shortage of recipients.

Kindness goes a long way and making good food available and affordable to all is one of the Box Divvy missions.

People thrive in good communities like communities thrive when made up of good people.

Food Waste and YOUR fridge 👩🏻‍🍳… What is your fridge system?

Want to waste less food? 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Every household needs a ‘fridge system’ if you want to improve your food waste habits and throw out less food. Yes! the fridge can get out-of-control very quickly with multiple hands feeding themselves and moving items.

Teaching the next generation about produce is key to reducing waste and growing awareness of how food gets from farm to table. That’s the best thing about avoiding food waste. You can do it as a family.

With Box Divvy you can anticipate things that are seasonal and get back to the beginnings of how food is grown, educating your children and your members.

About 1.3bn tonnes of food is wasted globally each year, of which Australia’s contribution is more than 7.6m tonnes – mostly from households.😱

Tackling food waste is a unique sustainability challenge that everyone can get involved in as it is in EVERY household.

True Story: a report found that those with young children and busy lifestyles were more likely to generate the most food waste, particularly as they cater to evolving tastes and food preferences of their children.

Most of us HATE food waste and our intention is to not…but it’s a little bit here, a little bit there…it adds up. The idea of a compost bin is great! But it really does sweep the problem into the bin…

Here are some key tips to managing your food waste….Inside of a fridge.

✅Being realistic about how much food you consume
Only buy what you need (menu planning goes a long way to help this)
✅Have a ‘use up draw’ for last week’s vegies before you tear into the fresher stuff.
✅Use labels in your fridge like ‘eat me’ ‘juice me’ ‘cook me’ ‘for the pets’
✅Label your shelves: a dairy shelf, a meat/deli shelf, a leftovers shelf, etc (you wouldn’t have a cutlery draw without a cutlery tray…treat the fridge the same!)
✅Online shopping (boxdivvy) as it is commonly done at home when you can check what you have in the fridge/pantry
✅Use clear dividers to structure your fridge (huge range available at Kmart)
Vegetables break down because of water content and airflow. Wrapping vegies in a tea towel/paper towel helps absorb moisture and helps them last longer.
Anything you leave out to ripen should go in the fridge once it is to slow the ripening process if you are not ready to consume.

🌿 Basil is a staple for us at the moment, and just look at the price! Around $2.50 for the most fragrant fresh bunches.

There is always a couple of jars of pesto in the freezer ready to go for quick pasta meals or on salmon or chicken or just as a dip with veggie sticks or crackers.

It’s one delicious way to get a dose of leafy greens.

Carrots 🥕🥕🥕
The best way to store carrots to keep them fresh and firm is in an air tight container in the fridge. Love that I found a few sprouting! We are so lucky our Box Divvy produce is so fresh it can still actually sprout.

A few weeks ago, Box Divvy Unanderra - Coral put together an excellent price comparison of Box Divvy prices compared with the 2 major supermarket prices online. So this week I decided to do a price comparison of my personal order. As you can see, yet again Box Divvy wins at the bottom line. But not only am I paying less for my fruit and veg, I know that the produce I'm getting is grown closer to home, a lot of it is spray free, I'm getting less plastic with my order and the growers are setting their own prices and therefore getting paid fairly. So many good reasons to shop with Box Divvy.

One of my favourite salads is based on quinoa with as many herbs as you can fit and loads of shallots.

With all the gorgeous herbs being as affordable as they are right now at Box Divvy you can pack them all into this one.

Here we have rocket, parsley, coriander and mint.

Keeps in the fridge all week, dress it as you go with things like avocado, asparagus, celery, tomato, cucumber, cranberries, walnuts, beetroot, feta and a simple dressing of h**p seed oil, lemon and coconut aminos topped with your go-to protein 🥗🌱
