Adventure to the northern beaches with my boy.
As some may know, I used to live on the beaches and every now and again I pop down to visit friends and family, and my old employer. Today I took Benji with me for the visit and he loved it!
Car rides are so much fun, he got lots of snacks and got to see people he loves!
He also brought home a souvenir in the form of a sticky dot (maybe bandaid) on his neck - gross!
He will sleep well for the afternoon! 🥰

If you are struggling with your dog barking then I highly recommend checking out and attending this workshop!
I just came from an all weekend conference run by the Pet Professional Guild Australia for dog trainers and the information they shared was so valuable. I can only imagine how much owners will get out of this workshop!
Are you a dog owner or resident, and looking for support and advice to solve excessive barking?

Mayday for Mutts is all about celebrating the diverse range of dogs that make our life better for them being in it. It is also a day to encourage and educate about the many shelter dogs that need homes. A shelter dog can make a absolutely wonderful pet so consider adopting your next dog if you can.

Today we remember and honour those who have served and fought in wars to protect our country.
The men and women both on the war front and the home front and the animals that aided these men and women.

This is what I try to teach in my puppy class to set everyone up for an easier life ahead!
Too much focus on playing with dogs and getting pats from strangers can equal to a very frustrated and over stimulated dog when out and about.
We want to aim for neutrality where possible. And not everything needs to be interacted with - observing from a distance is still socialisation. It's all about habituation.

Meet Loki!
I saw Loki and his humans over the weekend after they were recommended to me by Asquith Veterinary Clinic.
Loki is such a sweet boy but sometimes his over friendly looking behaviour can get him into trouble.
So we are putting together a plan to help him learn how to be nonchalant around other dogs and people.
We discussed so many things at our consult:
- body language
- muzzle training
- feeding options to build value in his food
- the possibility of him having some gut issues that may impact his behaviour
- adding enrichment to his life
- lead skills
- the engage disengage game
- tethering skills
(went a bit over time whoops)
We covered many aspects of training for the problems his owners called me in to help with. I had a great time working with this firecracker of a dog and meeting his humans.
Looking forward to our follow ups and seeing progress with this family!

The early stages of muzzle training your dog!
By playing this game we teach the dog that they have a choice and they can opt in or out. We can obviously see when the dog is opting in too which is important for dogs that may find the muzzle a bit scary for various reasons.

Just sharing my dog on a log!
Having a good foundation of communication and skills makes taking cute shots like this easy!
Skills we used for this photo:
- up up (get onto this thing)
- sit
- stay
- focus
If you want to share adorable photos of your dog with ease then training simple foundations is the way to do it.
Need help?
We're here to support you 🥰

Did you know that puppies who attended puppy school were less likely to show behaviour problems, such as fear of strangers, and were overall better at listening to cues from their owners.
And the benefits to owners aren't unnoticed either; a better ability to read and understand their dog, and a greater success rate in getting their puppies to listen.
And the benefits don’t just stop with puppy classes either. On-going training for both owner and dog can have lasting positive impacts on the life and relationship they share.
We are passionate about educating owners on how their dog thinks and how we can work harmoniously with them to achieve our training goals together, whether that be basic manners in the home, or appropriate behaviour when out and about too.
To help you achieve your training goals with your dog or puppy, we have different services available
- Behaviour and training consults (in-person and online options)
- Take and train (similar to walk and train, but not solely for walking skills)
- Private Puppy sessions
- Group Puppy class sessions
If your dog or puppy isn’t quite where you want them to be with their training then get in touch with us and we can discuss the right service for your human-canine team!
Absolutely love this!
Such a great reminder that ANY dog is capable of biting or being aggressive and that should not be forgotten or taken for granted.
What really worries me are those people who have so much trust in their dogs that they put them in uncomfortable situations.
It only takes a split second for things to change.
Even if your dog never has, doesn't mean they never will.

We got given a gift from the awesome @bellas_happy_tails
These snuffle balls are 100% hand made with love!
We absolutely love ours (as you can see) and I highly recommend ordering your own soon so your doggo can get in on the fun!
Benji needs to be guided on correct use of this toy otherwise he will shred it, so I highly recommend supervising your dog the first few times you introduce them to a new enrichment activity

Clyde's owner contacted me due to unmanageable behaviour on the lead when walking. His behaviour ranged from constant pulling, whining, barking and then intensely lunging towards dogs and/or people.
Prior to this session Clyde, his owner and I worked on learning the foundations of loose lead skills in the home, then we took those skills outside without any triggers and here we are putting his focus and loose lead skills into practice with a trigger present!
He was such a super star today!
And we can't forget to mention how awesome our stooge dog helper was today too!

Small Update
I didn't even advertise this live. The last month has been tough for me.
I love what I do but I have piled too much on my plate and I need to take a small step back.
I am always here to help those who need it so please reach out.
Socialisation : what, when, how, why?
As a dog trainer I see a lot of dogs and one main issue that I come across with my clients could be greatly reduced by changing a few key ways that we go about socialising our puppies.
Today I'm going to cover when the socialisation period is for puppies, what socialisation is really all about and couple key changes you can make the next time you go through this process with your puppy to hopefully get that well-rounded, focused adult dog that is accepted in many different social settings.
How often should we train our dogs?
Join me for a super casual unscripted chat about how frequently we should be training with our dogs. I'll even share my own routine for training my dog.
Introduction to Lead Skills with your Dog
Have a dog that pulls? Or a new puppy that you want to set up to succeed from the beginning. This live goes through some simple exercises you can start working on with your dog today to allow you both to enjoy your walks together with no pulling.
I finish working a bit more on shaping Benji to use his stairs. The process is by no means done, but this was the first session.
What is Positive Reinforcement Training?
What it is and what it isn't in as simple terms I can put it without losing important information.
Ask me questions, enjoy the talk and let me know what you thought.
Remember Teddy?
Well as part of Teddy's training plan, we spoke about using a muzzle to prevent him from being able to scavenge things on walks, which is a big problem for his owners. If we can prevent him picking up random things in the first place, the owners don't have to break that trust they are building with Teddy around taking things from him.
So this is the start of muzzle training with Teddy. It's important that when we can, we give back agency to our dog's. Allowing them to opt in or out of training sessions or activities gives them confidence and trust in you. It also makes them more likely to participate in the long run too!
Only a few sessions in and we are seeing so much progress with this guy around his items thanks to the hard work and dedication his parents are putting in outside our sessions!

Remember Lolly?
Here she is super chill and relaxed with a dog in view.
Lolly's threshold is quite large so we are working in controlled set ups (with a stooge dog) to help bring her distance to a more manageable one.
Both Lolly and her owners did absolutely fantastically today and I was bursting with joy and pride by the end of the session.
What a great way to start the weekend!!

What a great thing to come back to after my holiday!
Chewy's owner contacted me a few weeks ago beside themselves with stress over their dog's behaviour towards people entering the home + property.
He particularly struggled with trades-people coming to work on their place.
Here is a video Chewy's mum sent me of his progress. To say I'm proud is an understatement!
From Chewy's mum:
"This is Chewy calm in his bed while the gardeners mow the lawn. Major progress!"

We help you build strong, positive relationships with your dog!
Remember when you first picked up your puppy? I do. It was exciting and scary at the same time. This little ball of fur will rely on you for everything. There is the potential there to have the most amazing relationship and bond. Something so unique you won’t be able to describe it. It’s a best friend but with so much more on offer too.
I have always loved animals, especially dogs. I spent my entire childhood asking my parents for a dog. Always the answer was no, until one day it wasn’t.
When I got Benji I vowed to always take care of him no matter what. I promised to never abandon him and to look after him as best I can.
When I first got Benji I did just that. Except, with what I know now, I can tell you I made mistakes.
Without realising it I damaged my relationship with Benji for the first 1-2 years of his life using methods of training and discipline that are still marketed and recommended today.
Back then I didn’t know better.
Now I do, and I want to share my knowledge with dog owners, whether recent or not, so they can have the best relationship possible with their dogs.
I did it with Benji, I’ve seen the results first hand and I wish I had someone help me earlier in our time together.
At 5 Benji is such a well behaved dog. He has his issues (don’t we all) but I work with him in positive ways to help him cope with life so we can live harmoniously and happily.
I won’t lie, there will be mistakes made but in the end the strongest relationships can overcome those hurdles great or small.
I want to give you the skills and confidence to build a strong relationship with the dog you have. I want to help you give your dog the skills and confidence to live in our world.
