Want to live to past 100, with fewer health issues?
This article explores 5 regions in different parts of the world – from Sardinia to Okinawa - where the local population lives longer, and has lower rates of heart disease, cancer and dementia as they age. What’s the secret to a longer and healthier life? Here is what they have in common (and this will shock you..):
o A healthy diet, mainly plants, plenty of leafy greens, whole foods (little or no ultra processed foods), fish, healthy fats, variety, low or no alcohol.
o Physically active, mainly outdoors – walking, growing their own food – with plenty of sunshine.
o People remain socially active with family, friends, community - sharing meals and reducing stress (the Roseto effect).
o Lead a life with purpose, have goals. Don’t just ‘wait for the end’.

Families eating meals together is important, but equally: cooking together, and especially getting kids involved at an early age. Research shows that kids are more likely to their meal if they’ve been involved making it. They are also less likely to develop weight issues, and grow up more independent and confident. Interestingly, parents who get their kids to help with cooking tend to have a healthier diet themselves.

Hi everyone 👋

Happy Saturday! This week's star items are up!

I was inspired while browsing through the marketplace earlier in the week to make Coconut Vegetable Laksa. So many of the ingredients just happen to be great value!

The infographic lists some of the ingredients that you can get in the Fresh Vegetables and Pantry sections of the marketplace.

This recipe includes a made from scratch Laksa paste and serves 6 - https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipes/vegetable-laksa-6979

Hi everyone 👋

Happy Saturday! This week's star items 🤩 are up and include parsnips!

Parsnips are a winter root veggie belonging to the flowering plant family Apiaceae along with carrots and parsley.

Parsnips are low kilojoule and fibre rich with 1/2 cup serving containing around 200kJ and 3g of fibre (more than a slice of wholemeal bread), 320mg of potassium, 7mg of vitamin C and 15 mcg of folate.

The soluble and insoluble fibre in parsnips is helpful to reduce cholesterol levels, obesity and constipation. Potassium-rich foods are excellent for heart health and folate is essential in the diet with insufficient levels linked to certain cancers and birth defects. So...you know...eat them! 👇

But you may want to avoid parsnips if you have a history of allergies to birch pollen, walnuts, figs, carrots, and parsley!

Parsnips are best eaten cooked; their sweet, nutty flavour is perfect in soups or stews. They also make a great substitute for potato...parsnip chips anyone??

The most nutritious part is just below the surface of the skin so keep the skins on for maximum nutrient value.

Remove the leafy tops if present before storing as they draw moisture from the roots and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

This visually stunning dish from the FIVE cookbook by Rachel de Thample pairs sweet orange and parsnip with nutty quinoa. A perfect winter salad or vegetarian main.

Hi everyone 👋🏼

Exciting news 📰

We have a new supplier & product!! Brooklyn Boy Bagels 🥯 are now available in the marketplace.

Brooklyn Boy Bagels 🥯 from Marrickville are widely considered Sydney’s best bagels, supplying over 1.2m bagels each year to hundreds of cafes and sandwich shops.

These bagels are sooo good because:
🥯 they are hand-rolled
🥯 the dough is fermented for 2 days
🥯 they only use real food ingredients
🥯 they are boiled before they’re baked

The result is a bagel that is both chewy and malty, like the original New York bagel.

We have available three of the most popular varieties:
🥯 Plain
🥯 Everything
🥯 Blueberry.

They come in packs of four ($9.50), but for the next 2 weeks, the single café bagel – which is bigger than the pre-packed ones – is available for you to try for $2.25 (normally $4.50).

A little bit of NY delivered right to your neighbourhood!

Hi everyone!

In Divvy news: Meet Carly, the new Box Divvy Pantry Manager and an absolute whizz! She is starting Carly’s Pantry and each week will highlight a new product from the Box Divvy pantry with tips and ideas on how to use it.

This week Carly presents Carwari Japanese Mirin, also known as 'Sweet Cooking Rice Wine', a versatile seasoning that’s an essential ingredient in Teriyaki. Mirin is a fermented product and whilst it has no additives or preservatives, it contains about 1% alcohol due to fermentation.

Check out Carly's pantry here: https://youtu.be/1_9qbIDbXZA

Hello everyone!

🍆🍆 I had leftover eggplant from last week's divvy and decided to make Baba Ganoush. This is such a tasty dip to have on standby. Super quick and easy to make and massive on flavour. This recipe is gluten free, nut free and vegan-friendly.

You can get all the ingredients for this in our marketplace pantry. Enjoy it with raw vegetables, with Bankstown Bakery's amazing Lebanese bread as a snack or on a wrap. 🍆🍆

Hi everyone!
I hope you are having a great week.
Some exciting Divvy news just in: there has been yet another improvement to our ordering process - Pantry items will now be delivered the same week they are ordered. This change takes effect from the order cycle starting 14 July. How good is this?! This will make it so much easier to do our weekly meal planning! I for one am very pleased with this new change. Happy divvy days!

Happy Saturday everyone!

We have baby eggplants as a star item this week. Eggplants are fibre-rich and low in kilojoules, great for our blood sugar levels and heart health. The purple skins are rich in antioxidants so keep the skins on when cooking to get these benefits. They are a nightshade vegetable so caution for those who are intolerant however they are low FODMAP (75g serving size) so ok for those with IBS.

I plan to make Pasta Alla Norma this week with my babies, here is some recipe inspo for you all. You can get all the ingredients in the marketplace.

Top with grated Parmesan or pecorino or cashew parmesan if you are plant-based/vegan and serve with a side salad such as Italian Rocket salad for even more veggie goodness!

See Nagi's (Recipe Tin Eats) recipe here: https://www.recipetineats.com/pasta-alla-norma-eggplant-pasta/

Another price comparison.

After the February CPI shock, supermarkets have started discounting fresh produce more than usual, our price comparison is a little less exuberant than normal…for now.

If you wish to read more about joining a Hub check this out
https://www.boxdivvy.com/join-a-food-hub

The goal of our food Hub is to cut your food bill, without compromising on the quality, freshness and variety of food. With minimal effort, minimal packaging and food miles, and still paying farmers and suppliers a fair price for their produce.

To see more about How box Divvy Works please look under ABOUT on this page.

Want to know how we work with our growers? https://www.boxdivvy.com/how

Maybe you’d like to see the pricing https://www.boxdivvy.com/products

We are between 30-40% cheaper on a seasonal basket than online supermarkets.
Why is that important?
We pay our farmers fairly, we have no complicated distribution centres so you will taste the difference.

What makes Box Divvy Unique?
We’re about community – farmers, you and neighbours. We share stories about farmers and produce here. I encourage you to share your recipes and show your cooking feats here for our group to discuss.

I look forward to meeting you and please enjoy the journey.
Any questions please ask.

Cheers,
Apolline
