WELCOME DR. YATES ❤️ Dr. Elspeth Yates is our newest addition, and boy did we get lucky. Dr. Yates is photographed with her beloved Mollo, and an additional photo of her handsome cat Merlin! 🐱🐾 Originally wanting to be a palaeontologist, she has always had a big space in her heart for animals, and eventually decided on veterinarian. We are so lucky to have her, and cannot wait to see her grow within our team, and practice! 🥰

Handsome Kruz was in for his final set of puppy vaccines yesterday. He was quite content being carried around by Dr. Green and RVT Tamra, although his new alligator toy was the hit of the afternoon🥰🐊

A little but blurry but a whole lot of cute!🥹🫶🏻
Rhubarb came in for a little cut on one of her knees that won't quite heal today. She was a star patient standing for her exam with Dr. Primrose, and she enjoyed some smooches from RVT Sarah too❤️ We love you Rhubarb!

💫 STAFF SPOTLIGHT 💫

Elana is our newest team member here at West Springs. She is our office administrator as well as a client care specialist. She comes to us with five years of veterinary industry experience in both client care, and as a vet tech assistant. She is such a positive, fun person with an infectious laugh, and we feel so lucky to have her on our team!

Why did you pursue a career in vet med?

I’ve always had a passion for animals since i was young! I grew up spending a lot of time on my Grandads farm around farm animals, and companion pets as well.

What’s your favourite dog breed(s)?

I have to say Pitbull’s are my favourite because they are so misunderstood, and having a rescue Pitbull myself, I will now always have a Pitbull (or multiple) in my life at all times.

What’s your favourite cat breed(s)?

Maine C**n, because they are just so cool.

What are your veterinary interests?

I am very interested in emergency medicine, as well as nutrition. Both of those are very different, but I find them equally interesting!

What is the coolest hobby that you have that people may not know about you?

I LOVE cooking! I’ve taken culinary courses before, and would love to take a more intensive culinary course one day.

PSA: Dr. Morgan Primrose is back from maternity leave!! She is currently only working Tuesdays for the month of February, but will have a bit more availability in the coming months.

We are so excited to have Dr. Primrose back, she always keeps us all laughing and is such a charismatic, amazing veterinarian. ♡

⚠️WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGE⚠️ Let’s talk spays and pyometras!

Photo 1: this is photo taken of an ultrasound of one of our patients. The circular figure to the right on the screen is the dog’s uterus. This dog happened to have what is called a Pyometra. Pyometras are infections in the uterus that cause them to swell and sometimes release a bloody, pus-filled discharge.

Photo 2: this is a photo of the three uteruses and ovaries that were removed from our three spay patients on the same day. The little one on the right was a young kitten. You can see that this was small, and the kitten hadn’t gone through a heat cycle. The middle specimen is from a medium-breed dog who was actually going through a heat during her surgery, so it was quite a bit more vascular, and a more challenging procedure. Lastly, on the far left we have the pyometra. You can see how inflamed the uterus is here. This dog was actually a small breed dog (far smaller than the patient prior).

Pyometras need to be treated as soon as possible as they are actually life-threatening conditions. All three of our spay patients are recovering well at home, and our pyometra patient is doing great thanks to Dr. Green performing this surgery ♡

Dr. Mallory Green is our medical director here at West Springs. She is truly such an amazing vet, and we all feel so lucky to work with such a funny, hard-working person. We all learn so much from her on a daily basis, and she has brought so much to this practice. You rock Dr. Green!! ♡

Why did you pursue a career in veterinary medicine? Growing up on a farm I had a love for animals as a child and always had an interest in science specifically biology.

What is your favourite breed of dog?Obviously, golden retriever.

What is your favourite breed of cat?

What are your veterinary interests? Nutrition and ultrasound.

What was the best vacation you’ve ever been on? It was snorkelling with sea lions and penguins in the Galapagos!

💫 STAFF SPOTLIGHT 💫

Kelly is one of the vet tech assistants here at West Springs. She has been at our clinic for over two years now, so many of you probably recognize her. Kelly is a literal superstar TA and gives 100% every day. She is also a vet tech student right now, and has been wowing us with how skilled she has become so quickly. She is a very important, and valued member of the team, and we appreciate her hard work so much!

Why did you pursue a career in veterinary medicine? I’ce always had a passion for animals and have always wanted to learn about veterinary medicine and what goes on behind the scenes!

What is your favourite dog breed? Dachshunds and golden retrievers ( with special mention to a very specific mixed breed patient that l love, Skoki Denney)

Favourite cat breed? Maine c***s because they are huge and adorable!

Veterinary interests? In small animal practice it is surgery and learning fear free medicine, but I hope to work with wildlife or in zoo animal medicine some day.

What is your proudest accomplishment in the past year? Pursuing an education in animal health technology, and rescuing my golden retriever, Revy!

Handsome Gunner came in for vomiting and diarrhea. Upon examination, Gunner was mildly dehydrated, and had a painful abdomen. Abdominal radiographs were taken that showed a piece of bone in the distal aspect of his colon (third image zooms in on the fragment.) Gunner was sent home with supportive care, and the bone fragment was excreted! He is feeling so much better now and his back go his energetic self.
