Our Feb 4, 2024 Urban Locating trial has been sanctioned by NASDA. Here is the link to the premium, the entry form can be found on the bottom. Entries to the draw will be open for a 24 hour period on Jan 13, pre-entries after that will remain open on first come first serve basis until Jan 20.

Hello All! We would like to remind all our exhibitors about how titles are earned in NASDA and how the point structure works. All this information is in the rulebook so please read it over and be sure you are tracking your points correctly if they have not been posted to the NASDA website yet…and then please double check them when they are in your dog’s profile on the website.

So here is a quick breakdown:

Level-I = 100 points
Level-I Excellent = 600 points in Level-I

Level-II = 400 points (all earned in Level-II)
Level-II Excellent = 900 points in Level-II

Level-III = 500 points (all earned in Level-III)
Level-III Excellent = 1000 points in Level-III

It is important to note that, for example, if you finished your Level-I title with 115 points that those extra 15 points do not carry over to your Level-II title, but they do count towards a Level-I Excellent title. It’s also important to note that if you choose to move your dog up to another level when they aren’t in fact eligible, none of those runs or points earned will count and you will have to start that level over once the dog is eligible.

We've discovered that some exhibitors may have mistakenly miscounted their points at our last trial and were therefore awarded title rosettes that were not earned. For anyone who has double checked their points and realized that they brought home a title ribbon they haven't yet earned we'd be happy to accept them back for safe keeping until you do!

Our bodies are tired and our brains are full. Thank you everyone for attending the judge workshop and trials this long weekend. We hope everyone was able to take away some valuable knowledge. We are less than two weeks away from our Thanksgiving long weekend trial and Judges Workshop with Jessica Clough! And while the trial itself is full, Jessica is still taking registrations for the workshop. This will be a deep dive into all of the different games NASDA offers so it will be very educational for prospective judges as well as competitors. For those working towards becoming judges, this is the last opportunity to fulfill your Continuing Education this year!

There are auditing spots available at a reduced cost so if you are a competitor who is hoping to get into Invitationals next year and want an insight about what the judges are watching for and a deeper understanding of the rules and possible deductions from your score, we strongly suggest you take full advantage of this opportunity!

Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of questions about placements (and therefore bonus points) in my email inbox.
The big confusion seems to be that you see a time on your dog, and wonder why the dog who was slower than yours placed first or second and you dog did not.

The key is the SCORE

NASDA is not a pass or fail, fasted dog wins, game like many of your are used to in Barn Hunt. It is a judged and scored sport where a clean run is valued ahead of a fast run.

Each dog starts their run with 25 points. You lose points based on your handling and your dog's performance. That's what your judges are judging you on. So if we have the following situation

Dog A: scores 23 points and finished in 00:12.23 seconds
Dog B: scores 25 points but takes 2:28.77 seconds

Dog B places ahead of Dog A even though Dog A was faster.

If two dogs score the exact same number of points, then the faster of the two dogs places ahead.

If you want a top four placement, work really really hard at running CLEAN. Most deductions are on the handler, not the dog. As we used to say in flyball "run clean, and the speed will come". We are about to announce an amazing learning opportunity for Thanksgiving weekend (we are just ironing out the details with the Judge and waiting for NASDA approval/for the dashboard to be working) and if you are interested in one on one coaching I'll have that available shortly as well.

We are planning some fall fun at Long Dog Ranch near Red Deer on Thanksgiving long weekend, October 6-9, 2023! We have not applied for anything yet as we have to nail down a few more things, but we wanted to let you all know so you can plan and have a look at hotels if needed because there is also a dog show in Red Deer that weekend!

More info will be released as soon as we know more...stay tuned!

Hi everyone! I've now sent out an email to everyone who entered the trial to confirm their runs. I am pleased to say that the new system worked well, and while it was a few more hours worth of work for me on top of what I was doing before I was happy that it allowed more people to play than otherwise would have had the opportunity. Of course we do still have a wait-list, so if you received your confirmation and have not sent us your trial fees or your waiver form this is your reminder to do so before your runs are forfeited!
So please check your emails. Everyone who entered should have gotten an answer either way, so if you did not please contact me directly! [email protected]
