On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. Their resilience and courage in the face of immense pain and suffering demand our respect and commitment to reconciliation.
It is important to remember that the last residential school closed only 25 years ago, and that the intergenerational trauma inflicted by these institutions continues to be felt across generations. This day serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to learn from this dark chapter in Canada's history and actively work towards healing and understanding.
