*Friendly reminder* that even the water or a little pollen from lilies can kill or cause severe neurological & organ damage in cats. Don't have them in your house if you have cats!! ☣️ If you even think your cat came in contact, see a vet immediately!

🎄Pine needles and water are not on this list, but can also be a danger.🎄

One of the biggest misconceptions among pet owners is that felines do not need grooming when in fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. All felines can benefit from grooming by a professional who has been properly trained. Grooming felines is not the same as grooming canines. Here are some things your professional groomer wants you to know:

1. Felines do NOT groom themselves. They lick themselves. If they are not properly groomed by a professional this licking often leads to hairballs as the cat's barbed tongue combined with licking means ingesting fur.

2. The saliva a feline leaves behind is often the cause of humans claiming to be allergic to cats. It's actually the saliva and dander that cause allergies. This is another reason professional grooming is necessary for felines.

3. All felines coats can become matted, even short coated breeds. Impacted, shedding fur will quickly become matted. This is yet another reason felines need professional grooming.

The same rules that apply to canine grooming apply to feline grooming. Start your kitten young. Play with their feet. Keep them brushed/combed between appointments. Please respect your canine groomer if they refer you to a feline groomer. A groomer who is not properly trained in feline grooming can be seriously injured.

What Happens After My Cat’s Mats Are Removed?

Whether combing or shaving, many mats will leave a bald spot behind once removed. This is caused by the matted hair pulling at and damaging the skin. There can even be areas of redness, irritation and even bruising uncovered during the mat removal. This is all normal and should heal on its own without additional treatment.

In some cases of mat removal, a hot spot can develop a few days later. This is caused by the cat licking itself over and over again in the same spot. Cats do this because the matting is pulling tightly on the skin and once the mats are removed, the skin is more sensitive, sore or itchy. If a cat begins licking an area obsessively, it can turn into a hotspot from self-mutilation.

~ Did you know?! ~ Cat mats are caused by a combination of excess dead coat getting stuck together with the greasy oils from the skin. The hair compacts together, similar to a steel wool pad. So intead of tangles, they are hard clumps of hair. You will not be able to brush these mats out.

Pelting is a serious problem that cats face. Long haired or short haired, any cat with hair can get matted, and mats lead to pelts. A pelt can kill a cat a...
