I am very grateful and happy to be acknowledged by receiving the Order of Nova Scotia.

The growth of Hope for Wildlife has, and will always be, the result of an amazing group of people who have come together to share in the same goals and mission. I would like to send out a big thank you to everyone: the volunteers, interns, donors, staff, the community, and to all Nova Scotians.

Nature, and the way we interact with nature, is always changing.

Hope for Wildlife is here to serve the Nova Scotian wildlife that becomes injured or orphaned through our human actions. We help nature through our wildlife veterinary hospital, our well-trained rehabilitators, and through our educators who visit our schools and community groups.

Our mission is to connect people to wildlife in a positive way, through knowledge and understanding.

By receiving the Order of Nova Scotia, I feel it is recognition that Nova Scotia's wildlife is benefiting from everyone's hard work and it highlights how we need to respect and care for our natural world. Let’s keep making a difference for Nova Scotia's wildlife. It feels good to support and serve Nova Scotia in this way.

Thank you everyone.

I am in love with the emotion and passion I feel within this photograph. To me, it represents a man's life long love affair for his Horses, and this is his unique Story.

Every day this 91 year old Man would sit on the back of his Boulonnais horse on the way to pasture.

This is a story worthy of capturing to be treasured for generations to come.

With the power of social media- he has been found!!! His name is EMILE DESJARDIN (FRANCE πŸ‡«πŸ‡·)

β€˜Coal-Box’, a German pony mascot of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, Albert-Amiens road, September 1916, during WW1.

I came across some more information today about β€˜Coal-Box’.

'Coal-Box' was a German pony, which strayed into the lines of the 2nd Battalion in Belgium in 1914.

He served with the Battalion throughout WW1, being looked after by Lance-Corporal Geary of the Band. He accompanied the Band and Bugles on parade and always marched at the head of the Battalion, except on long marches when the Quartermaster provided a special box on the back of a lorry.

When he arrived in Portsmouth after WW1, he was practically blind in one eye. The other eye deteriorated while the Battalion was in Ireland. Eventually, as a kindness, he was shot in 1921. It was said that 'Coal-Box' would lie down and die for his country or go anywhere - with a little persuasion.

Lest We Forget.

This amazing foal was born with a patch by his mane that looks like another horse. The pattern is such a work of art that the foal's owners have called him Da Vinci, or Vinny for short. He was born at the start of May at Fyling Hall riding school at Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire.
