Important to know!

Two days ago I heard three words that broke my heart.

“We didn’t know.”

And how are you expected to? There are so so many things that can happen and so many people that it’s impossible to reach everyone.

But this post is our fall reminder of Pasture Myopathy. We post it to hopefully save one horse. Maybe more.

In the fall, especially after a big storm, the seed pods from Box Elder trees (Manitoba Maple) are highly toxic to horses.

Be sure to start supplementing hay as our grass begins to go dormant for the season. Clean up fallen branches and leaves.

If anyone has a horse go down, call your vet immediately and don’t forget this could be happening. Move all your other horses away from this pasture.

Symptoms of Pasture Myopathy are stiff walking, black urine, recumbency, respiratory distress and death.
