We are excited to welcome the newest member of the Paws & Claws Pet Sitting family, Theo!

We had the pleasure of caring for Theo in the comfort of his own home while his owners were away. Theo was an absolute joy, and we loved giving him all the attention he deserved.🤍🐾

Summer Break🤍🐾

This week in Nova Scotia we may see some record-breaking temperatures and humidity with heat warnings already issued in several counties.

In extreme heat events it is important to keep your pets at home, if possible, if you ensure that your home can be cool for you and your pet. A few basic modifications such as keeping windows covered, having fans available, weather-strip doors, minimizing oven use, etc. Ensure that your pet always has access to fresh, cool water as well.

Never leave your pet in a hot car! Regardless of if shade is provided or if a window is cracked, cars can overheat quickly even when the weather is not severe, and this can lead to a deadly situation.

Avoid physical activity and exercising with your pet. Even a short walk outside should be avoided, especially when walking on pavement/asphalt as these surfaces can burn your pets’ paws.

Consider playing mentally stimulated games with your pet to keep them busy such as scent work, or trick training. Offering treats/canned food frozen can keep your pet busy AND cool.

Recognize the signs of heat stroke such as

▪️ Excessive panting

▪️Restlessness

▪️ Excessive drooling

▪️Abnormal gum/tongue color

▪️Collapsing

▪️Unsteadiness

If you are concerned that your pet is in distress from heat, please seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Stay Safe and Stay Cool.
