Silver Willow Farm

Silver Willow Farm Silver Willow Farm Silver Willow Farm was established in 2006 with the dream of creating a small, self-sustaining organic farm.
(21)

Our goal was to create organic food that was mineral rich and flavourful. However, as we slowly cleaned the property, planted our garden and purchased our animals, we realized that we wanted to create something more. At first, it was just temporarily fostering animals as they moved to their forever homes. However, we quickly saw that there were some animals that could not be rehomed due to physica

l or emotional issues – we decided we could provide a sanctuary for them as we restored them to health through natural methods. We found a combination of a natural diet; the herbs from our garden; Omega Alpha Pharmaceutical products and homeopathies were all that were required for even the sickest animal. To offset the cost of their upkeep, we began taking in boarders, training and offering lessons to both dog and horse owners. As Taylor developed her training and coaching style, she noticed that her horses were helping her clients rediscover an inner joy and strength. She began to explore the idea of Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning (FEEL), and discovered her true joy. With a passion for helping others, in particular youth and those facing addiction, Taylor has partnered with her horses to help people heal and discover their inner strength. Since 2006, Silver Willow Farm has grown from being a budding organic farm to a place of healing and growth. We welcome you to join us on our journey as we work to heal mind, body and soul.

SWF Spartan Warrior
DoB: Apr 26, 2024
Dam: SWF Kai
Sire: SWF Send the Rain (Teija)

This little guy has it all - flashy looks, flashy movement, curious and brave personality, trainability and engagement.

All SWF foals are raised in mixed herds - mares, stallion, geldings - to learn how to be good horse citizens. They are exposed to cattle, sheep, dogs, 4 wheelers, gun shots, fire works, poultry, and lots of visiting people. Their life on a track ensures good muscle and bone development, brains and coordination.

We offer free board until they are a year old as the later weaning creates a more emotionally balanced and easy to work with horse. We offer free backing if the horse is boarded with us until they are 4 years old.

Spartan will excel in any division - all of Kai’s babies have show high athletism, good cow sense, bravery, and trainability, partnered with an outgoing and engaged/playful personality.

If you think Spartan is your future partner, reach out.

Baby Bump Spam ❤️Plus, hold Oct 5 in your calendar!!!

Don and I are really happy to be able to say that the very high risk pregnancy that started with a miscarriage and fear has turned into a simple and happy pregnancy.

We had our full anatomy ultrasound on Aug 2. While it isn’t their normal protocol anymore, Don came in and got to watch the whole thing. The little monkey is just like their parents and tries to hide from the pictures. They crammed themselves into my pelvis and made it hard to get a clear shot of parts that the tech wanted.

After an hour of trying, they went for a break. While they were out of the room, Don grabbed my ankles and I did an inversion, bouncing around. When they came back and tried again, the babe was in a good spot and they got all the pics they needed except the spine. We told them what we did and they were a little surprised, but hey….it worked.

So now the fun part. We aren’t doing a traditional shower - it’s really not my style and so many family and friends are giving us the things we need that they don’t anymore, gifts would be unnecessary and honestly, unwanted (we don’t need more stuff - I’m a clutter monster as it is lol).

Instead, to celebrate this new baby that is coming and the major changes that will be coming down the pipe for Don and I, we will be holding a Stag OR Doe at the farm on Oct 5. From 3 to 6, it will be fun for the whole family with games (including a guess the gender 50/50 raffle), pony rides, raffles and food. From 6 until late, we will be having more adult type games, drinking, dancing, bonfires, and more.

We will be releasing more details soon, but we wanted to let you know so you can hold the date. If anyone has something they would like to donate as a raffle item, let us know. If you can sell tickets, we would be super grateful. If you can spare some time that evening to help at the bar, supervising one of the games tables or any other way, please reach out.

A HUGE thank you to Lesley and Cassie for their help in organizing this. I don’t know what I would do without you!!

Looking forward to having you all there to celebrate this next big adventure we are on.

Blue moon ceremony

“Once in a blue moon” is a saying we use to express the rarity of an event, but is it rare? There are two definitions of a blue moon - the popular, but mistaken, naming of a second full moon in one month. This event occurs once every 2.5 years. The next time this will occur is in 2026.

However, the correct use of the name Blue Moon is related to seasons. Usually, seasons have 3 full moons. However, summer 2024 has 4. The 3rd full moon of the season is called the Blue Moon. This moon will be shining over us on Aug 19th and 20th.

What does this all mean? It means that any full moon in this season will have a heightened effect. The energies of acknowledgement, recognition and the power of release are all magnified.

It is the other energies that surround a blue moon that make them even more exciting. This current Blue Moon will be in Aquarius ♒️. The combined energies of the 2 previous full moons in Capricorn and this one in Aquarius are giving the summer a feeling of being at odds and also some de ja vu. But what these energies are really asking is for you to develop your awareness and take the opportunities to create real change - or just keep repeating the cycle if you aren’t ready to shift and grow.

As always Taylor, Lisa and the horses will help guide you through this energetic time in a unique blend of astrological insights, meditation, ritual and of course the grounding of horse medicine. As an added energetic boost, Taylor was gifted with a bag of cedar that her friend Jesse lovingly harvested and dried before her death. We will be burning the cedar and some of the dried flowers from her celebration of life, further inviting in the energies of Pluto - death, rebirth, release and growth.

If this ceremony is calling to you, we invite you out to on our only summer circle date of Sunday August 18th. Hope to see you there 🩵

Please contact Taylor to register. When you register, if you provide your Date, Time and Location of Birth, Lisa will look a little deeper into what this time means specifically for you.

See our Facebook event for more details.

Little Jessy just died in my arms tonight.

Her mom had a little bit of mastitis on one side. Nothing terrible. But we were going out every few hours to milk that udder out. Every time we did, Jessy would come over and nurse on the other good teat, which had lots of healthy milk. The last time I saw her nurse was at 4:30.

At 8:30, I went out to milk Rose again and finally got the mastitis fully cleared up. I noticed the other teat looking a little fuller than usual. When Jessy didn’t get up to nurse, I went over and asked her to try. She couldn’t get up on her own. I lifted her up and she was able to stand, but barely. Rose nickered to her, but Jessy gave no response.

From 8:30 until 1, we did what we could. We treated her for colic, as that was what it looked most like. We gave honey to keep her glucose up. We offered milk, but didn’t force it. Slowly, her temperature began to be more normal and her breathing steadied. She stopped laying flat on her side and would sleep in a more normal position. But she didn’t gain any energy.

I took out a blanket and slept beside her. When Rose saw that I was being attentive to her, she wandered a little further away to graze. Whenever I stood the little filly up, she would come over and nicker.

At 12 pm, Jessy seemed a little better. At 12:30 there was some stomach gurgles and my hope went up. We continued with the care we could provide and crossed our fingers. At 12:45, she began to shiver. It wasn’t cold enough for her to be cold. I put my body against hers and covered her with the blanket any way, knowing it was either the body shutting down or the body rallying.

Rose came back over and stood quietly over us. Jessy took her last breath, the heavy breath that means death. The breath the body takes when it has stopped trying and is just done. Her sides stopped moving and her eye softened to look at nothing.

Everything stopped. I felt nothing. And then the pain came rushing in. Not just for the loss of this filly, but for the loss of her namesake. I realized that my tears for Jessy hadn’t been the deep healing tears that I needed. As I began to cry and sob, Rose left her dead foal and stood over me. She nickered to me softly, doing the gestures that mean “Let it all out. Release it all”. I cried and cried. I turned to Rose and apologized for not being able to do more. She didn’t care. She knew I had nothing to apologize for and the guilt I felt was not necessary. Just like all the guilt I carried around my friend Jessy’s death. All the “I wish I had” and the “Why did I postpone” and the “I should have done more with her”. I let my guilt for the filly and the guilt for my friend go - I did the best I could and that’s all we can do.

I thanked Rose, gathered my supplies and blanket and walked back to the house. I will leave the filly with Rose until she is done grieving in whatever way she needs.

As I walked through the fields under a beautiful moon, I could feel another big emotion rising. One I didn’t want to feel. A deep, primal rage at the injustice of it all. The stupidity.

I felt the scream rising in me and I stifled it. I didn’t want to feel anything that big. I was scared about letting that much anger out. And then I realized that this filly was providing me an opportunity to release that rage. Her death so close to Jessy’s wake, her birth on the day of the wake, helped tie this death to Jessy’s and allow me to process things more deeply.

I let myself scream and the sound terrified me. I didn’t realize the depth of my anger and pain until I vocalized it. The tears flowed more freely after and I felt like I could breathe more deeply again.

Thank you Little Jessy, Stormy Dancer, for coming for such a short period. For allowing me to fight for your life like I couldn’t fight for Jessy’s. To remind me that even if I could have been there and fought, we never have control when death has decided to come. And to help me release the grief and rage and guilt. Thank you most for that.

And thank you Rose for taking the time to comfort me when your grief is heavier. I am a lucky human to have you here and to be in your care.

Please send your love to Rose as she grieves the loss of her foal.

Today, Don and I are taking a day home alone to decompress.

Yesterday, Jessy’s friends and family came to the farm to say their goodbyes, to share memories and to hold each other closer.

As her family worked hard to get things set up, a storm rolled in with loud thunder and bright lightening. The rains were coming in sideways, soaking the chairs at the edge of the tent. The family worked together, getting anything that couldn’t get wet away from the water.

The weather cleared just as people were meant to arrive. Watching the unity as the family got everything set up again, towelling of tables and chairs and arranging the many beautiful pictures and totems of Jessy’s life so that we could all see her and remember her. Friends and family that arrived early helped with the process. It was as though Jessy brought the rain to bring them closer as a team and remind them of the strength they have together.

The ceremony was short and moving, with a poem from Jamie and a eulogy by Mike. Thunder boomed at the start, but the sun came out to shine. It brought home the truth of the situation, but also allowed the flowing of tears and the start of closure. After, everyone was invited to feast (OMG - the food was amazing) and to play in the fields and mud and water. To share stories and to hold space for themselves and others as we celebrated the much too short life of a woman who helped so many of us.

The day was made more magical when Rose gave birth to a sweet filly during ceremony. Baby Jessy has a moon on her face - there is no question she was a gift from our Jessy. I am going to register her as SWF Stormy Dancer.

A thank you to Kellie, Lucy and the kids for helping monitor the animals and keeping everyone happy and safe.

Don and I feel very privileged to have been a part of the day and send our deepest love to the family. Grief is a long, slow process and rarely linear. We are here for you!

Thank you to everyone who was able to come and who sent their love. Knowing the strong community of love that Jessy created helps with the healing process.

HELP!!! I got my new phone up and running and the calendar was working but 2 emails weren't. When I added the emails, my calendar was cleared.

Here's what I need:
1. If you have a lesson booked with me, please let me know the time and frequency (eg: weekly, bi-weekly, etc)
2. If we had something booked socially - weddings, birthday parties, tickets to shows or events, please send me the dates and times.
3. If we had a workshop scheduled, please let me know the date and time.

Please don't assume I will know or remember. I live by my calendar and having it emptied is making my brain feel fried.

Feel free to PM me or put a comment.

Thank you in advance for your help in putting my life back together!

Happy Summer Solstice!

Yesterday, 4 beautiful women joined Lisa, the herd and I to prepare for the powerful energies coming today. Not only did the horses share their wisdom, the chickens, dogs and Lola the Highland also had messages to share.

Lisa took the time to look at the individual astrology of each participant, adding an extra layer of depth as people went inward to explore where they have been, where they are and the goals they would like to reach (whether professional, personal, familial) in the next season.

The horses invited us to take off our shoes and cross the creek to join them. It was a fun addition that I didn’t expect. The chickens and dogs took part in a way that they don’t usually. It was a very unusual night, but many profound truths were uncovered and validated.

I am in awe at the vulnerability and courage of our group as tears and laughter were shared. Thank you all for stepping up fully to make the most of our time together.

I can’t wait for the next time we get together. ❤️

Want to improve your confidence riding by strengthening your core and flexibility, while developing more body control, mental clarity and focus?

Join Tania Facer of Revive Pilates at Silver Willow Farm for an hour long outdoor Pilates class every other Sunday at 11 starting June 2.

I have been working with Tania for a few months now and she has helped me immensely. Following my surgery last year, I had lost the ability to engage some of my stomach muscles. Tania has given me the tools I need to reconnect to them. And my riding has improved since (an unplanned side effect).

Regardless of your fitness level, Tania can provide modifications to the exercises so that you will feel challenged and see improvements.

$25 per session or $100 for both June and July ($100 for 2 months of classes!!)

Email [email protected] to register.

Come join Tania - you will love it and your horse will love you for it!

SWF just had the fastest sale we have had yet. Cheyenne birthed this beautiful black filly a few hours before our trail ride today. I snapped some shots for my friend Brianna who rode Cheyenne last week on a ride. And the filly was sold.

This filly is the last cross between Cheyenne and Dreamer, as Dreamer passed this winter. And it will be the last foal she has with us, as her two previous c**ts are now my stallions.

Congrats Brianna!! Cheyenne’s babies are amazing!

Picture of Kai’s very cute c**t for attention.

Now for the real reason I’m posting - Sunday, May 19 from 3 to 6 pm, we need some volunteer help to install more electric fencing. Jobs will include pounding in Insul-Timbers, measuring distances, stringing electric, and installing temp gates. Lots of walking. Some heavy lifting. It is the purple lines in the arial that we will need to add.

Once we are done, we can brush some horses and meet the new foals.

Please RSVP if you can attend so I can figure out the best way to break up tasks.

Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm in 2024

Welcome to Silver Willow Farm in Haldimand County. We have covered things such as moving cattle, hand milking a cow, making cheese and butter, feeding horses, leading and brushing horses, animal birth, fence repair and more.

We are a 75 acre working farm with close to 100 head of livestock - an opportunity to see a real working farm.
