Update as of 3 pm July 28th - just got word from Dr Catherine that she made it to Hinton - after driving all night!!!- She says she will be at the clinic in the morning and will still remain open this Friday August 2 to be of as much assistance as she can. Thank you, Dr. Catherine !!

Happy Sunday. At this time, we are still not 100% sure if Dr Catherine will make it back to Hinton before tomorrow. At this time, we will be open Monday, July 29th, but there may not be a vet on site. We will be open for sales.

To balance this, we will be open Friday, August 2nd 9 to 5 (closed for lunch 12 to 1) with a vet on site.

Jasper Evacuees...if you still need pet food or supplies for your pet, Purina and Solstice would like to offer each family food or supplies to help out. We will also do our best to fill any prescriptions needed. Hoping you all are staying positive and supporting one another.

Just want to update everyone on the situation at Solstice Vet. Dr Catherine and Dr. Taylor were scheduled to be away this week as both are out of the province with different commitments. Dr. Catherine is trying very hard to get back for opening on Monday July 29th but floods and fires are making her trip longer than expected.

We will do our best to open July 29th but we may not have a vet on site until Tuesday, July 30. We apologise as we did not anticipate the complications that have risen and will do our best to serve those that have been displaced by the fires.

Our hearts go out to the residents of Jasper, both 2 and 4 legged.

We will try to update you on any changes.
Stay safe.

An update with the requirements for traveling with your dog into the USA as of August 1st.
The rules vary for each dog based on where you are traveling from, but ALL dogs will need to
Be at least 6 months old
Have a microchip
Appear Healthy on arrival
Have a CDC dog import form receipt. (this form will be available on the CDC website for you completion prior to travel)
Have a rabies certificate showing Rabies was administered after your dog was microchipped and is up to date.
Have a veterinary record showing they have received care 6 to 12 months prior to travel. This can be a receipt from a veterinary visit, a vaccination certificate, a health certificate or an examination page.

For the most up to date information please visit the CDC website. The DOGBOT page will help owners determine what rules apply to their particular dog. https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html

Additional information can be found on the Canadian government website (CFIA), however the CDC website should be the primary source used. https://inspection.canada.ca/en/travelling-pets-food-plants/travelling-pet
As of the date of this press release (July 11,2024), The US and Canadian governments are still discussing the exact form completion process, so these are not currently available, However we will make an update as soon as these details are confirmed.

What can you do now to prepare for travel with my pet after AUG 1 2024?
1. Ensure your pet is microchipped and that their rabies vaccine is up to date AND was given AFTER your pet was microchipped.

Why are these new rules coming into effect?
The United States government is working to reduce the risk of Dog maintained rabies virus variant entering the US as rabies is a significant public health risk and is a fatal disease in people that is completely preventable.

It’s going to be a bit more complicated, but not insurmountable for dog owners traveling to the U.S with their pets. The CFIA is working with the U.S authorities to streamline the process and provide further guidance soon.
STAY TUNED !!!

To my clients
There have been a lot of rumours going around regarding the clinic and a plan has finally come together which I feel will, thankfully, benefit all parties involved, especially the Hinton community. This post is to inform our clients of the changes that will be occurring in the next couple months.

First, it is with humble regret that I inform you that at the end of March I will no longer be practicing in the Hinton area full time. I have decided to focus my scope of practice on a more integrative approach. In the recent years, I have obtained my rehabilitation therapy and acupuncture certifications and wish to use the skills I have obtained. I am hoping to provide my patients with as many tools as possible to achieve the best health for their animal companions so that they can live long, happy lives. I am also hoping to provide advanced pain management and options for musculoskeletal and neurological conditions diagnosed by other veterinarians in the area.

Second, I want to welcome Dr. Catherine Rouleau, who has graciously decided to continue to practice at Solstice Veterinary Clinic providing veterinary medicine for the community. Dr. Rouleau will be taking over the practice in April and will continue to provide wellness and non emergent services. We are ecstatic that she has enjoyed her time with us and has grown to love the community.

Unfortunately, we will have to continue to NOT provide emergency or hospitalization services at this time due to continued need for a registered technician. We are continuing to work hard to gain the appropriate staff to ensure continued care. There will also be limited appointments in June and July due to commitments and the transition in the clinic.

Please feel free to reach out to us at the clinic if you have any questions regarding these changes. We are happy to continue with your pet’s future care.

Dr. Taylor Sobchuk DVM, CCRT, CVA

Slight change in hours this week. Thursday February 29th we will be open only from 9:00 until 1:00. We will be open Friday March 1st this week for half a day as well from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

01/14/2024

ATTENTION!! Dr Sobchuk will be away from the clinic January 17 and 18th to finish her Acupuncture training. Despite efforts, a locum was not found to cover. Therefore, there will be NO VET in clinic those days.

We have decided to shorten the hours those days to 10 am to 2 pm.

We will resume regular open hours and operations January 22.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. . Stay warm and safe!
