We lost so many big beautiful trees in yesterday’s storm. Pretty well anything that couldn’t bend in half, either fell over or snapped in half. Luckily all of our animals, main buildings, and (surprisingly)fence lines are all fine.

✨NEW PROGRAM✨

Go beyond regular riding lessons and learn about horses in depth. Developed to encourage riders to tone horsemanship skills, and learn about horses from the perspective of care and safety. These classes are helpful for those wishing to achieve their Equine Canada Rider Levels, those wishing to one day own a horse of their own, or those simply wishing to know more about horses! (Think 7 weeks of elaborated pony camp)

Equine Theory Classes range from level 1 to level 4, following the rubrics of the equine Canada learn to ride program.

No horse experience necessary! In fact, we recommend joining an equine theory level 1 class before your first lesson. This will help you be more confident and comfortable in the saddle.

Although there is no riding in these classes, they are very hands on with the horses.

Amanda Harris is certified Equine Canada Competion Coach (English), and certified to evaluate Equine Canada rider levels (up to level 6)

Prior to the start of the eclipse, attach the glasses to your horse’s halter with polymer zip ties. Once the eclipse is complete and the sun is back to normal, you can easily cut the zip ties to remove the glasses.

One of the hardest decisions we have to make as a horse owner. One of the last things we can do for our best friends, is to let them go on a good day ❤️‍🩹

A tough topic about an even tougher decision.

It would be easier if they just made the decision for us. Laid down to rest one warm fall afternoon surrounded by their herd mates, never to wake again.

Easier also is in the face of dire emergency, where the only choice is clear, the path to quick mercy.

Unfortunately for us as horse owners, there are blessed few who have that decision made for us. Most of the time, it’s up to us to make that last call.

The majority of us are left with the horses who served us well right up until the end, maybe even enjoying years of retirement. When you see them out in the pasture and wonder, “is this the end, or just a bad day? A bad few days?” “Oh – they look perky today, maybe things are looking up. What I thought I had to think, I don’t have to – today. It’s a good day.”

But the writing is on the wall. Their eyes are less bright, their weight hard to keep. Their gait shuffled, surviving, but no longer thriving.

All symptoms of the fact you have the hardest decision of your life to make, and soon. I wish it on no one and grieve the day I have to make the decision I advocate here for; the decision to let them go on a good day.

We are having a blessedly long and beautiful fall, but time is waning if you are only beginning to contemplate whether your trusted partner can face another barren, brutal, frostbitten winter.

You are the only advocate your horse has. His health is and has always been in your hands. In loving him as hard as you have for all these years, I hope you can love him hard enough to let them go on a good day, while there is still time.

Today we said our goodbyes to lesson horse Dudley. He was a lesson horse here at AGB for the past 10 years, giving many riders their very first rides on a horse. He was mr. Steady eddy, who was trusted around the barn with many young riders. His favourite thing to teach, was how to use your legs. He will be greatly missed by so many people. He will be a tough one to replace. ❤️‍🩹

How beautiful us barn girls clean up 🥰. So thankful most of my barn family was able to make it to my bridal shower yesterday. Missing Torie, Brooke, Erich, Hanna, Hannah and Fiona.
