Our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

PS: It is requested that everyone who reads and believes it would paste it on their page. It’s a world prayer assignment, a couple of minutes for the health of all the sick, weary, and heartbroken. The power of prayer is amazing! Amen. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Railways were the heart of Kawartha Lakes from 1857 to 1963 and one of the most contentious issues in constructing railway lines came with the Town of Lindsay's decision to allow the Midland Railway to build down Victoria Avenue in 1877. Lindsay passed bylaw 270 granting the land to the Midland Railway, with most of the residents along the road in opposition to it for years. Maybe for good reason as accidents could occur.

This photo was taken in the early 1890s in the yard after a grain train and snow plow were towed in together following a collision on Victoria Avenue during a snow storm. The man standing at center is William Pym, Conductor of the plow extra.

The story of the accident goes as such:

A snow plow was ordered from Lindsay to Haliburton. After it had departed from the station some trouble developed on the engine and the engine moved to the shops near Albert Street for repairs. This took the best part of an hour to complete and by that time the snow plow should have been north of Fenelon Falls.

A grain train from Midland stopped at Victoria Junction (top end of William Street) and Conductor Charlie Adam called the station on the telephone and asked if all was clear. He was told that a snow plow extra had departed an hour previous for Haliburton and it was all right to come into the yard.

It was snowing and blowing quite hard at the time and visibility was poor. Engineer R. Johnston and Fireman Tom Tutton on the leading engine of the grain train could not see very far ahead and when the Haliburton snow plow extra suddenly appeared out of the storm in front of the jail on Victoria Ave there was nothing they could do. The engine of the grain train rode up on the snow plow and the front of the snow plow engine. No one was injured and the two engines and the snow plow were later towed into the yard to be separated.
