Meowy Holiday Bake Sale!

Help us make spirits bright over at the Markham Cat Adoption Centre as we raise funds to give the cats in care a very Meowy Christmas!

Where: Right outside our adoption centre located inside the Thornhill Community Centre

Last month, the Ontario SPCA Markham Cat Adoption and Education Centre hosted our in-person Sweat for Pets event! Together with sponsors, community partners and community members, we hosted a morning of wellness and fun for all.

The event included yoga, zumba, a community market, dog grooming station, photo booth, food and refreshments, and a beautiful stroll through our walking trail. In total, over $7,000 was raised in support of animals within the York Region community!

We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support throughout the campaign, and for helping us to make in the lives of animals we care for.

We wish to extend a special thanks to our community partners and sponsors for their contribution, which allowed us to host the in-person event. We couldn’t have done it without your support!

After 119 days in care, the stars have aligned to bring these 2 back together ❤️Boss's adoption journey began back in February when a family member's health was not great, it was best for Boss to come into our care to find a new loving home.

He spent some time in foster care then as our animal centre had many, many cats in care. Foster homes are such gems! Such great extension of us to help us provide care for even more animals!

We had so many cats in care at the time we reached out to our sister animal centre Ontario SPCA Lennox and Addington Animal Centre. The good news was they had extra room for our adoptable friends like Boss and a few other kitties. Transferring animals to other animals centres opens up new doors for them and helps them find their forever homes.

Boss made more new friends at L&A, they just adored him! Several weeks went by and still, no inquiries about adopting Boss?! We are all about new opportunities and giving every animal the second, third, fourth chance they all deserve. Our Markham Cat Adoption & Education Centre jumped in to help here hoping that a fresh new cutie face like Boss's would be swooped up in no time, but still, Boss patiently waited. Most cats meet only a couple of people they befriend in their lifetime Boss, on his Provincial tour, made friends wherever he landed! We were all routing for Boss to find his best fit soon, to find his happy place.

Just a couple of short days ago, Boss's original foster Mom saw that Boss was still available, and in that moment, she knew they were meant to be together, forever❤️Yesterday, Boss hitched a ride home to Renfrew County with a pretty special volunteer and we are beyond thrilled to share Boss has now been officially adopted! 🎉🎉Thank you to everyone who had their paws in the making of Boss's very happy tail! 😻

Adoption Update - Ellen 😻

Emma is amazing. A very gentle sweet soul, after she settled down from her trip from your shelter to my home. She walked around swishing her tail making little noises and sniffed and checked out every corner of the two rooms which will be her safe space until she is totally confident.

She is a lap cat, big time. I have attached a picture of Emma and I lying on the bed. This was her first day home, and an hour later she was on my lap. She is a talker. So cute. When I talk to her she talks back. When I pet or groom her she chatters in delight. She has a great little dance with sound affects when I come in with her wet food dish. She loves her scratching pad, and again when we are playing she often runs to it when she is excited and has a good scratch workout.

Also Emma loves classical music, she almost goes into a trance listening to it. I have Classic FM on my clock radio and leave it on for her, she enjoys it so, and so do I. Yes, I sure think Emma and I are a perfect match.

Adoption Update - Thunder 😻

Petulla (Thunder) is doing great! She and my other cat are now acquainted and getting along. She is such a sweet girl and absolutely loooves belly rubs.
The adoption process was very efficient and straightforward. I would definitely adopt from the Markham CAEC again.

To keep animals and families together, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has launched a new wellness clinic within the Ontario SPCA Centre Veterinary Hospital in Stouffville as one of our many community support services.

By working with local social services, we want to reach those who may be struggling to provide routine care to their furry family members. To access the service, which provides general wellness examinations, vaccinations and routine care you must be referred through local social services. Note that we do not have the capacity to offer emergency care!

Adoption Update - Noodle 😻

Thanks again for letting us meet & adopt Noodle on Sunday. He’s doing so well and finding all the comfy spots. He is very happy and his coat is looking better every day. He has fit in extremely well and very quick. Everyone in our house is happy to have him and he seems to be settled in great!

Adoption Update - Zimba 😻

Zimba (who now goes by 'Boi') has been doing extremely well considering the changes he went through so far. He continues to be a confident and energetic boy who is friendly with the entire household as he was from day one.
I personally don't think the process of adoption needs improving: I found that the adoption process was very straightforward; all of the staff members I talked to gave very detailed advice and did an excellent service for everyone involved. Thanks so much for what you do.

Adoption Update - Rocky 😻

Rocky, now named Tony Montana, is adjusting well. He was out of his safe space by day three and is FINALLY warming up to the dog. My cat is still asserting her dominance but it gets better with each passing day.
I think you guys did a wonderful job so I can't really recommend any improvements. I would absolutely adopt from you guys again.

Adoption Update - Cow 😻

Cow is settling in nicely! He's a total sweetheart 23 hours of the day, and a couch destroyer 1 hour of the day -- but he's lucky that he's cute ;)
We'd for sure adopt with you again and have recommended the experience to friends already.

Adoption Update - Zoey 😻

Zoey is doing very well in her new home. She is a petite, loving and gentle cat who loves watching the birds that visit our feeder. She sleeps a lot and fits in perfectly well with two retired parents. They`ve been without a cat for the last 10 years so they are really enjoying her presence in the home!

Adoption Update - Serafina 😻

We are all doing well, it’s been a learning process getting to know each other. She is a very sweet girl. Day by day she’s getting a bit more relaxed, she’s always happy to see us when we come to see her in her safe space we’ve set up for her. She loves to lay down near us, loves pets, and especially loves her new hut. We’re so very happy to have adopted her and give her a new home. Have not introduced her yet to our other cat, that itself will be a longer, slower process but so far they sit on either side of the door and are ok. She’s eating, drinking, using her new litter box. She loves her new fountain and especially loves the squeeze pouch treats.
