🌿 Exciting News! 🌿

We are thrilled to announce that our land has been certified as a wildlife habitat! 🐾 By creating a wildlife-friendly garden, we aim to raise awareness in our community about the importance of preserving and supporting local wildlife. πŸ¦‹πŸ¦

Our garden is now a sanctuary for various species, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. We hope our efforts inspire others to create their own wildlife-friendly habitats and join us in making a positive impact on our ecosystem. 🌱

Let’s work together to protect and cherish the incredible wildlife that shares our world. πŸŒπŸ’š

Let us introduce you to one of Primitive Farm's family members:

Honey, is around 4 year old Cocker Spaniel. She was rescued from the streets of Beirut in March 2022. She had been tied up on a pole and left to die slowly. When found, she had open, bloody wounds and was suffering from infection. Skin and bones, severely dehydrated, she had a severe case of demodectic mange (Demodex), among other issues, leaving her with a weakened immune system. It took many vet stays, visits, time, and care to help her heal. Once Honey was healthy enough, she was on a flight to Canada to finally get a second chance at the life she deserves – something she had little to no chance of finding back in Lebanon.

Honey was checked by a vet after a few weeks of fostering because it was noticed something wasn’t right. She was diagnosed with an acute case of roundworms and giardia (intestinal parasites), an ear infection, seasonal allergies, and likely food intolerances, most of which were due to her weakened immune system, and all required either immediate or ongoing treatments. She also had yeast infections on her face, neck, belly, and legs (where the mange had been the worst and her fur didn’t grow back).

During the first three months, Honey received everything she needed to continue getting healthy. Over $1500 was spent on costs including exam fees (initial and follow-up), stool analysis, shots, medication to treat the roundworms and giardia, her twice-daily cleansing solution for her yeast infection, and treatments for ticks, fleas, and mange. It also includes the required food for dogs with sensitivities and probiotics (recommended by the vet to help her nutrient absorption until all the intestinal parasites were gone).

Originally, I was just supposed to be a temporary foster home to Honey while she adjusted to Canada and the Rescue who her brought her here found her an adopter. But after a few months with her, it became clear to me that she’d already found her home! So the adoption papers were signed and she became the 2nd Lebanese rescue dog to join the family πŸ’•She’s is now a healthy, strong, and happy little girl! Despite everything Honey had to go through, she’s not only the sweetest, most affectionate dog ever, she’s truly as funny as can be! To know her really is to love her! ❀❀❀

🌿🐦 Exciting Discoveries in Our Backyard! 🐦🌿

Amidst the chirping of chickens and playful antics of kittens, we stumbled upon a delightful surprise: a nest cradling the precious eggs of American Robins! Nestled atop the wooden beams of our carport, these fluffy little eggs bring a touch of nature's beauty to our daily lives.

Though our cars may bear the occasional evidence of their presence, we couldn't be happier to share our space with these feathered friends. With hearts full of warmth, we've chosen to preserve the nest, allowing the devoted mother bird to care for her soon-to-be hatchlings.

Stay tuned for updates on this heartwarming backyard adventure! 🌿πŸ₯šπŸ£

So, it’s been quite a busy & stressful week! Sadly, despite all our efforts to help, we lost one of our girls after she’d laboured for 5 hours unsuccessfully πŸ˜” Funny how we never hear anyone talk about how hard or uncomfortable, and in some case life threatening the β€œsimple” act of laying eggs can actually be for chickens. Ladies, could you imagine giving birth 5-6 a week?! Yikes 😬 A small consolation is that we were there by her side the whole time & hope that was of some comfort to her πŸ₯Ί
On a more positive note, although we had 2 more chickens with very serious issues, one of which was dying, we studied up quick to learn how we might help, and both are now doing much better! They’re still on the mend in our makeshift infirmary, but as you can see, they’re getting back to their silly selves! πŸ₯°

Meet Twirls. She took up residence in one of the buildings on the land just before we moved in. Nervous & scared, but still curious about us, we finally won her trust after months of offering her food, patience & a cozy cat shelter.
On Tuesday morning, she was all too excited & proud to lead me directly to her little shelter and show me her newborn babies, only a few hours old! So it’s with so much appreciation for everything this new farm life is offering us, that we welcome 5 new little ones to our farm family! (video in comments)
Good job Twirls πŸ₯°
