[ VAL UPDATE ]
Val joined Mattie's Place May 20th, just moments away from euthanasia. You can catch up on her story in the below links if you're not familiar.
She has undergone surgery once and had medicated bandage changes twice weekly since arrival at Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital - TVEH under the care of the incredible Dr. Joudrey.
Last week, Val decided she was going to jump in the swimming pool, and unfortunately, she got her wound infected after so much diligence by her foster family for the previous 5 weeks.
It was a sad setback. She was put back on antibiotics and bandaged again with her medicated pack on the wound.
Yesterday, Val's bandaging came unravelled and her medicated pack that is supposed to be on her wound wasn't there. She was rushed back to TVEH as we just couldn't risk any further setbacks with her wound and the surgeon she needed to see was leaving in only a few hours.
Well, it turned out to be the best visit yet!
Val's wound, that started out the entire size of her rib cage, is now down to the size of 2 toonies. The infection from last week cleared up and Val is officially naked now - - no more bandages, just a surgical suit and daily medicated flushes.
We are hoping, beyond hope, that it continues to heal, which it should, and we're officially done with this tragic injury. 🤞🤞🤞
HUGE immense gratitude to everyone that contributed towards all of Val's medical care. It's been an expensive journey under the surgical and twice weekly care of specialized surgeons, but it gave her the absolute best opportunity to have this horrendous wound healed in the quickest amount of time and skilled eyes to pivot as needed to stay ahead of any problems.
TRIPLE HUGE thanks to her foster family. My gosh. I couldn't have done this without them. From welcoming her into their home, to the incredible care they have given her and sacrifices they have made (like driving 4 hours yesterday from the cottage to get her back into TVEH). Jordan and Alexis, I appreciate you both so very much. For so very much. Thank you a million times over.
