Celebrating the Windmill at Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary
Today we're celebrating the completion of the second windmill at #AudreysLegacy #turtlesanctuary and since it's Canada Day, we're taking this opportunity to celebrate our home on native land - a proper acknowledgement for all of the communities of Canada who were here before us.
Little RESQ and Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on Mississauga lands and the traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties.
We are grateful for the opportunity to build a sanctuary in Kawartha Lakes and we thank all the generations of people who have taken care of this land - for thousands of years. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place.
We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples, both in shaping and strengthening this community and country as a whole.
This recognition is connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our community.
Thank you.

Audrey's Legacy Update Spring 2024
We've been quiet on social media recently about the progress at Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary. That's becasue we've been hard at work build roads, finishing the fencing, and getting the boys' pond ready!
We're so close to being finished but we do need a bit of extra help. If you are able to, please consider donating to Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary Fund.
CanadaHelps is a fully secure online donation platform that also provides you with charity donation slips (and reminders to get them next tax season). Please consider donating if you are able: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/Littleresq/

2023 with Little RES Q
2024 is almost here and it's time to take a look back at the last year and see how we did!
We couldn't have done any of this without your support and kindness. Our successes are your successes, so Congratulations turtle friend, we did it!
Stay tuned for the separate Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary update in the new year.

Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary is finally ready for winter. All of the turtles will brumate over the winter months and pop back up for the warm spring weather.
Come see us tomorrow at the Reptile and Plant Expo at the international center from 10-4! We have lots of tanks merchandise and adoptable animals all looking for new homes! #littleresq #charity #donatetoday #reptilerescue #adoptdontshop #reptileexpo
World Turtle Day isn’t over yet! We have more great content for you.
Regan W H Macaulay is a local author of many wonderful children’s books. One of them is Tamara’s Turtle Life So Far.
Proceeds from the sale of this book go directly to helping us keep the lights on and the turtles fed.
If the kids in your life aren’t into turtles, check out her other books available on Amazon. (My favourite is Libby the Lobivia Jajoiana - a tale of believing in yourself and realizing your unique potential)

Tomorrow is the finale of the 2023 Turtlebowl.
Voting for the final round starts at noon between the two semi-finalists.
Who is going to win? You decide!
It’s finally happening! After many suggestions from all of you, we are introducing a livestream of Little RESQ!
We are partnering with ReelTime Animal Rescue to bring you a platform that is accessible and trustworthy for all your turtle-streaming needs.
We are one of many rescues that are partnering with the wonderful ReelTime team and we are excited that we can connect you to to the RESQ at the click of a button all from the comfort of your desktop, laptop, or phone.
We will let you know when we’re up and running! We were just too excited not to share.
We're renovating the rescue to serve you better! But we need your help. Do we know any electricians willing to donate some time, or supplies or both to help us turn our storage area into a new reptile room?? #littleresq #reptileshelter #donatetoday
Here's a really cool timelapse from one of our pond cameras! The turtles at the sanctuary are adapting to their new paradise and are really enjoying themselves. #littleresq #audreyslegacy #turtlesanctuary
We had a feeling this one area of the pond would be a happening place, and it did not disappoint! Check out this little video we put together from our one trail camera. Sorry we still can't do a live feed, but this is just as good! #littleresq #audreyslegacy #turtlesanctuary🐢
Tomorrow is the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the grand opening of Audrey’s Legacy!
This Monday, the long-awaited red eared slider sanctuary will finally be open. This exclusive sanctuary has been developed in honour of Audrey, a LittleRESQ spokes turtle, who grew up in the worst of conditions. Read more about Audrey here: https://www.boredpanda.com/audrey-rescued-turtle-little-resq-toronto/
Her memory lives on in all the turtles who will thrive in the sanctuary in their large aerated ponds surrounded by turtle-proof fencing. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for Ontario’s red eared slider population without risking the endemic turtle populations.
Due to the nature of the sanctuary, it is not open to the public. If you would like to visit the turtles at Little RESQ, please use our contact form at www.littleresq.net to schedule a visit or join us at the local reptile expos.

By the way, phase one of Audrey's Legacy is now complete!
We still need your help to finish the whole project, but this pond will be ready for its first residents very soon!!
