We are a limited admittance shelter that restricts intake in order to uphold a standard in quality of life for the surrenders in our care. We implement a waiting list when necessary, use a foster care network to help, and emphasize adoption and responsible pet ownership for all types of reptiles.

🐢 Exciting news! We’ve teamed up with to create this beautiful handout to educate everyone about Red-Eared Sliders. 🌿 These turtles need a lot of space and careful research before being considered as pets. They are invasive and often mistaken for other turtle species. There are many of these turtles available for adoption from places such as

We strongly advise against buying these turtles from a pet store! We believe these flyers should be displayed all over the province to spread the word! 🗺️

📍 Tag a few places you think should have these on display. Let’s work together to protect our native wildlife! 💚

Today we're celebrating the completion of the second windmill at and since it's Canada Day, we're taking this opportunity to celebrate our home on native land - a proper acknowledgement for all of the communities of Canada who were here before us.

Little RESQ and Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on Mississauga lands and the traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties.

We are grateful for the opportunity to build a sanctuary in Kawartha Lakes and we thank all the generations of people who have taken care of this land - for thousands of years. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place.

We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples, both in shaping and strengthening this community and country as a whole.

This recognition is connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our community.

Thank you.

Picture this: a snake feast fit for royalty, costing a jaw-dropping $350 per meal for our slithery friends. Thanks to the Foundation, the snakes in our care are on their way to not just one, but two of these grand feasts.

We can’t thank you enough for your support and kindness in keeping these scales fed while we match them to their forever homes.

Remember the two tortoises, Easton and Zett, that were looking for a new home? They've been successfully rehomed with a very caring family.

We're confident they're going to be very happy with Kaleb.

Big thank you to everyone who shared, commented, and showed interest.

We've been quiet on social media recently about the progress at Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary. That's becasue we've been hard at work build roads, finishing the fencing, and getting the boys' pond ready!

We're so close to being finished but we do need a bit of extra help. If you are able to, please consider donating to Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary Fund.

CanadaHelps is a fully secure online donation platform that also provides you with charity donation slips (and reminders to get them next tax season). Please consider donating if you are able: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/Littleresq/

Happy Mother's Day!🐢🐍🦎🐸🐉

A poem for you written by the turtles at Little RESQ:

Guardians of scales, the mothers of reptiles stand vigilant.

Nurturing their scaled and shelled children with unwavering devotion.

Their love knows no bounds, as they embody the essence of strength and resilience.

Happy Audrey Day!

Today is the day we celebrate Audrey's life and her incredible legacy that she has left behind. Today, we renew our commitment to the turtles of Ontario and beyond.

She has impacted the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of turtles across Canada.

We have been keeping you up-to-date on our social media, we are excited to announce the launch of the Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary Website. This platform will provide updates, information on the sanctuary's activities, and how you can get involved.

Audrey's spirit will continue to inspire us daily, and we are grateful for the time we had with her. Thank you, Audrey, for everything.

[CLOSED]

Hello turtle friends. Today we have a signal boost: Two tortoises looking for a new home.

“My biggest wish is that they stay together. They love baths, exercise outside of their enclosure and outside time in the summer.”

From their current home: I have two female Red Footed Tortoises that live together, they are approximately 23-24 years old. I have had one since she was small and the other was a little older and I rescued her from someone who was not giving her proper care. They are both fairly healthy. I say fairly because they do have some pyrimiding and are a little overweight.

As much as it pains me to say it, I would love to find a new home for my girls (together). I feel I have not had the time to spend with them recently (note from Little RESQ: for very good reason that we will not list here) they are still being well cared for but it would be better for them to have more exercise, outside time in the summer and just more interaction in general.

They will come with their enclosure, a custom made 6x3 oak melamine enclosure with glass doors, double heat lamps and T5 fluorescent fixture. I will keep them in my home until a new home is found - I am in London, Ontario.

I do love my girls named Easton and Zett but I feel like they would be happier with someone who can give them more attention.

If you are interested in adopting these Easton and Zett with their enclosure, please send us a message. We will connect you to their current owner to continue the adoption process.

Edit: hi turtle friends, we will begin responding to messages this evening and tomorrow. 🙂

Welcome to Saturday’s edition of Volunteer Appreciation with Little RESQ.

We're thrilled to introduce Mikey B!

Mikey is a newer addition to our ranks of dedicated volunteers and he’s a powerhouse.

He dedicates himself to the stewardship of reptiles on many levels, including reptile podcasts, guest appearances, volunteering, and in his own day to day life with Midushi Reptiles.

Thank you so much for all of your contributions to our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome reptiles. You are a stellar volunteer!

Here’s a note from Mikey B about volunteering with us: “Been wanting to be more active in the reptile community so when Little RESQ called out for volunteers, I jumped on asap.

Marc, the RESQ team and the other volunteers were so welcoming, I made it part of my purpose and promise to the reptile community.

Whether it's the expo setup, working the expo tables or picking up donated equipment to bring to the rescue, it's a rewarding feeling to know I'm helping the community. I appreciate the time I can help others. THANK YOU 😊”

Welcome back to Volunteer Appreciation Week! Today we are highlighting Cliff!

Cliff has been a long time donor to us, since 2015! He has repeatedly adopted animals from us and often takes the hard luck cases that need love and extra care.

2 years ago, Cliff started doing summer camps at various humane societies in his area and he has done such a good job he repeatedly gets booked in Kitchener, Oakville, Burlington, and London.

Cliff has really hit it out of the ballpark! His passion has really helped our mission to educate at every opportunity.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work, Cliff. We appreciate you so much!

Welcome back to Volunteer appreciation week!

We're thrilled to introduce Falin!

Not only has she opened her heart and home to two adopted pets from our shelter, but she also dedicates her time to raising awareness at reptile expos. 🌐🐢

Falin’s passion for reptile welfare is truly inspiring. Have you seen the resin turtles that she makes to help raise awareness and donations? They’re absolutely the cutest!

Let's give her a round of applause for her selfless dedication and for making a difference in the lives of these amazing creatures! 🎉🦎

This week is Volunteer Appreciation week and today our highlighted volunteer is Ellie Vaish!

Ellie a volunteer outside of the GTA. She volunteers at the larger expos and also generously gifts her time remotely by being a cornerstone member of our fundraising team.

She has a vast amount of knowledge about different reptile species and is always up for a chat about what your reptile interests are.

Volunteering isn’t always about going to events, sometimes it’s about bringing your passion in ways that complement your schedule.

Thank you, Ellie. Your strengths, dedication, and creativity have truly helped the reptiles of Ontario. 💚🐢

If you’d like to volunteer with us, send us a request on our Little RESQ Volunteer group on Facebook and we will send you a link to register. Or you can register on our website directly at LittleRESQ.net

This week is Volunteer appreciation week and today we are highlighting Orion.

Orion has been an active volunteer for many years. You may have met him at Party4Pets, Expos, or other fundraising events.

He gifts a lot of time and energy towards our fundraising projects. He has also been a turtle foster parent and a turtle-taxi cyclist within the GTA.

Though the reptiles in our care can’t say thank you, we certainly can: Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

This week we are celebrating National Volunteer week!

Without the commitment and passion of our volunteers, we wouldn’t have been able to get as far as we have in our journey to finding homes for reptiles across Ontario.

We also would not have able to bring Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary from a dream into reality.

We will be highlighting several volunteers this week and we hope we can recognize their passion, compassion, and generosity with as much care as they gift us during every volunteer opportunity.

Thank you all so much. We truly cherish your hard work and stewardship.
