Hi, I'm writing this for a friend that just lost everything including his pets.

Last night in the big storm, a TORNADO hit close to his house and caused the electrical line to go down and burn his house, garage, cars, absolutely everything they owned. Him and his wife were able to make it outside but barely, on their way out they left the door open and they hope that their dogs (x4) made it out.

They found one of there dogs and are missing 3.
They are probably scared and ran.

They live in the Woods on the side of a lake. On Donaldson lane in Lanark.

They found one of there dogs and are missing 3.
They are probably scared and ran but they are all very friendly.
He has 2 standard chocolate poodle and 2 pugs.

Only one of the standard poodle was found.

A photo of comparison, to give pet owners an idea of just how small ticks can be. So while you may not see the ticks on your pet, it’s a high likelyhood they are there. These were pulled off a cat this morning. Luckily this cat was on flea and tick prevention and the ticks were already dying.
Ticks are there, even if you don’t see them. Pick up your flea and tick prevention folks. It will kill these tiny terrors before they can fall off alive and find their next meal with you.

It’s turtle season!
Keep an eye out for turtles on the roads and if you see an injured turtle call the number below!

Injured Turtle? Call 705-741-5000.
We intake Turtles from all across Ontario.

Here are some steps to take when you find an injured Turtle!
- Get the Turtle into your vehicle or to a safe space.
- Note the exact location you found the Turtle.
- Give us a call at 705-741-5000.
- Put it into a dry, well ventilated box or bin - do not give the Turtle food, water, or treatment in any way. Keep them at room temperature.
- Wait for us to give you further instructions or call you back.
- Drive the Turtle to the centre or a first responder clinic close to you. Or wait patiently as we arrange for a volunteer driver to get the Turtle from you. You must have the Turtle in your possession for us to send a volunteer Turtle Taxi driver

May long weekend is our busiest weekend of the year. You may have to wait longer than usual to hear from us or have a Turtle picked up, but as long as they are safe and secure with you - that is much better than them being out on the road getting hit again and suffering further. Thank you all for being on the lookout and stay safe!

Are you familiar with Heartworm?
This little guy was donated by a local stray picked up within the Highlands.
Heartworm is passed to dogs from mosquitoes.
A mosquito will take a bloodmeal from a Heartworm positive canine, that could be coyote, fox, wolf or dog. Within her meal is a microfilaria. This is the larvae of the Heartworm. When she is done her meal, she goes to her next canine and deposits this larvae, therefor infecting the unprotected canine with Heartworm.
6-7 months later you have a mature adult living within the heart. It may be anywhere from 4-13 inches long.
Treatment for dogs can be invasive and expensive.

Our Heartworm season is June- Nov.

Canadian dog owners planning on travelling to the US will soon need to adhere to some strict new regulations.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it will update its dog importation regulation starting August 1. The new rules apply if you travel to the US via the airport, land border crossing, or seaport.

The aim is to, “protect the health and safety of people and animals by making sure any dog arriving in the United States is healthy and doesn’t present a risk to [US] communities,” the CDC said.

Before entering the US, dogs must appear healthy, be at least six months old, and have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip by the end of the summer.

People travelling with dogs are encouraged to use CDC’s new personalized question-and-answer tool, “DogBot.”

This tool is on the CDC website and determines what rules apply to a dog owner based on their travel dates, where their dog is travelling from, and where their dog was vaccinated (if required).

While they might look unsightly, black fly bites are mostly harmless for dogs.

Black fly bites typically heal without treatment. While they can be sore or itchy, pets recover within a few days.

Xylitol is extremely Poisonous to Dogs.
Dogs metabolize xylitol differently from people. In dogs, xylitol triggers a large release of insulin that causes a sudden drop in blood sugar, a condition called hypoglycemia.
Signs of hypoglycemia include unsteadiness, depression, dilated pupils and, in severe cases, seizures. If ingested in quantity, xylitol may lead to liver failure. Signs are subtle and include lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite and diarrhea.

Reported cases of poisoning on the rise
