Puppy Campers working those leash skills in cabelas today!
This puppy camper (hound puppy) Maggie, is showing some early signs of Resource Guarding behaviors over food. Here she is learning that even though Daisy is nearby and getting treats tossed to her, that she doesn't need to go rush out to the food and push Daisy out of the way. She will get her own snacks and rewards for minding her own business.
Bonus points are that she is staying nicely in her sit/down while treats are being tossed near her!
Training Tip Tuesday!
A little introduction on how we do things here to start off.
Week 1 of puppy camp has started!
Today's lessons were kennel training, new surfaces, recalls, place, sit stays, impulse control, tunnel play and leash work!
These guys are going to have some great sleeps tonight π΄ π
All of the beds and blankets... Yet everyone still wants the floor π
Snoozing after some lick mat time! π΄
Reactivity in dogs is usually stress or fear based. In our Reactive Rover classes we work on building up your dogs confidence while teaching them that you will advocate for them if something is uncomfortable.
In week one these dogs would bark and lunge if another dog and/or human would approach them as it made them uncomfortable. Last night was graduation class, and while you may think Rambo didn't perform the exercise correctly, he saw the lady with the bag of snax coming his way and thought she was offering so was moving in to get a treat for being the goodest boy!
Turning Reactive responses into positive interactions via counter conditioning of emotional responses and reinforcing good behavior with rewards!
I just can't get enough of how much I love nap time around here π₯° so peaceful ... Much needed today to settle those mid week crazies!
Did you know that rest periods are very important in a healthy daycare setting? If there is no rest period in a day, the dogs will become easily over stimulated and that can cause unwanted and dangerous behavior!
Could you imagine a toddler not having a nap at daycare? They would immediately start a fight club but wouldn't talk about it... π€«
This is what structured, healthy and happy pups should look like! Peep the amount of space they all have to freely nap and are only using 1/4 of the facility to do so! Having plenty of room to roam or take an extra nap throughout the day also vital to a stress free environment.
Catchin some π€ in our mid afternoon nap time!
Barrier manners are equally as important!
Sniffin for snax yesterday!
All snugged in for our late night! We stay open late every Halloween for the pups who have a hard time with kids coming coming to the door all night. This way they're safe at daycare with us, instead of anxious and uncomfortable with possible flight risk at home. π₯°
