We are so excited to announce possibly our most unique animals yet… BABY RED-FOOTED TORTOISES!🐢

(Red River location)

Tortoises can live anywhere between 80-150 years and have been known to surpass that while in captivity! Now that’s a lifelong buddy and commitment! In many cases, a double lifetime.

It’s always important to do your research before taking on any new type of pet, and we encourage you to take the time to look into these little guys before making a decision. They won’t always be small. As you know, tortoises grow quite large, and will need a large area to successfully and happily live. Their enclosure should always mimic their natural habitat, these guys prefer a tropical, humid environment and will require a shallow area of water for drinking and soaking. Information about humidity levels, UVB, temperature, enclosure environments/ substrates, and how to properly care for and provide for a tortoise can be found online. However our in person staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Red-footed tortoises are omnivores, and require a diet of various fruits, vegetables and proteins. It’s important to provide a calcium supplement as well. Provide fresh food and water daily.

Tortoises require bathing to avoid dehydration, especially when kept under a heat lamp. The frequency of bathing will change as they age.

In the wild, tortoises are solitary creatures, who only really come together to mate. So it’s not recommended to pair two together, especially males.

This weeks Thunder Pet Mascot of the Week is Harry!💚

Harry is a ferret belonging to one of our customers, and is very near and dear to our hearts as he was one of our little ferrets from last year!

Harry had two siblings when he was with us at our Mountdale store, and we were so happy to see him go to a loving family. He does tricks for his favourite treats, loves to snuggle, go for car rides, and loves to play!

Our last batch of amphibious friends are White Tree Frogs!🐸

These little guys are my personal favourite, and are so silly and fun to own. They often will become accustomed to handling, as long as it’s gentle and cautious. Just like most amphibians, their skin is very sensitive, so wash your hands thoroughly before handling them. They have sticky feet, and you’ll often find them stuck to the glass of their enclosures. They’re very social animals, and would do well with a companion.

They love to climb, so keep in mind their enclosure will need lots of sturdy climbing materials and enrichment for them. Foliage is excellent for shade during the day, and creating a dark place for your frogs to rest. We recommend a tall tank, the larger the better. They need a heat gradient, so a basking bulb or an external heater should be set up on only one side of the tank to create a warmer area for your frogs. You should have a 12-12 light cycle, (12 hours of light 12 hours of darkness) for your frogs as they are nocturnal and enjoy the darkness. They become much more active at night, so be prepared for some more action after hours. Humidity should be at 60-70% daily, and substrate should be able to hold moisture to keep the humity up. They love to sit in their water dishes to rehydrate, so we recommend a dish large enough for them to sit comfortably. Make sure the dish isn’t too deep though, as tree frogs are not great swimmers. Their nostrils should always be resting out of the water.

They eat small crickets, earth worms, grasshoppers, beetles and other small- medium sized insects. The food you feed your frog should be dusted with calcium and vitamins, varying on how often depending on the age of your pet.

White tree frogs live on average up to 7-12 years with proper care.

Keeping the theme of amphibians, we also have African Bullfrogs available at our Red River Road location!🐸

African bullfrogs are fairly laid back, and make good pets for those who are new to owning an amphibian due to them being fairly easy to care for. They don’t require much handling, and they wouldn’t enjoy it much anyways due to their delicate and sensitive skin. They enjoy keeping to themselves, but they’re still very entertaining to watch in their habitats!

They’re fairly simple to care for, but you must have a proper enclosure for them. The bigger your frog, the larger your habitat needs to be. A good rule of thumb is that bigger is always better! Their tanks should have water, a build of of rocks or an area for them to rest and beach themselves, and some damp dirt for them to burrow when they please. They need humidity, and can dry up if your enclosure is too dry. A humidity level of 80-90% is a safe area to keep your tank at! For substrate, go with one that retains humidity and heat, like coco fibre, or peat moss. African Bullfrogs are known to eat the substrate in their enclosures, so it should always be something easily digestible for them. Tank cleanings should occur 1-2 times per week, or more if necessary.

Did you know that in the wild bullfrogs can burrow for up to TWO YEARS to escape dry seasons?

African Bullfrogs can live up to 40 years in human care with proper treatment!

They eat anything that will fit in their mouth, including other frogs, large insects, spiders, and even small birds and rodents. They also are not opposed to going after your finger, so be careful during feedings. These frogs are hungry, so expect to feed them every other day.

We don’t recommend housing multiple together, due to their tendency for frog cannibalism!

Males can grow up to 4 pounds (that’s a BIG frog) and females can grow up to 2 pounds on average.

🐸We have some special amphibians at our Red River Road location🐸

Come down to meet our Pac-Man Frogs!

These chunky amphibians may be on the smaller size now, but as they get older they can grow to a weight of a whole pound! Females tend to be larger than males at a size of 5-7in, whereas males typically top out at around 3-4in.

Pac-Man Frogs are adorable to look at and care for, but they don’t love being held and cuddled like other animals due to their sensitive skin. They live on average 7-15 years when cared for properly!

These frogs are insectivores, who (when they’re older), may enjoy the occasional pinkie mouse. They’re greedy eaters, and don’t tend to be too picky about what you put in front of them (even your finger). They can eat crickets, mealworms, wax worms, dubia roaches, minnows, guppies, and other various small insects.

They get their unique nickname for their round and bulbous shape, comparing them to Pac-Man, the famous video game character from the 80s👾

‼️WE HAVE BEARDIES AGAIN‼️

These little guys have recently arrived at our Red River Location! They are a sociable reptile and a great choice if you wish to interact a lot with it!
Their average lifespan is 8-10 years with proper care, and they can grow up to 24 inches long! (Half of this is their tail!)
They are omnivorous, which means they eat both veggies🌱 and insects 🐜
The minimum size of tanks for juveniles would be 36’L, 16’W and 18’H, but for adults you will want a 4 ft long 2 feet wide habitat with 2 feet for height!
You are going to need a UVB light as well as a basking light, and the recommended temperature for the warm end of the bearded dragons habitat is 100°F and the cooler end should be kept at 75°F

These angora/lop crosses are the sweetest bunnies you’ll ever meet! ❤️
Born on Sept 22 they are now ready to find their loving fur ever homes.😊

Please note that due to their super fluff they do require regular grooming and they do best with a specific small animal mat or fleece pad lining the cage. Most beddings get caught up in their fur.
