❤️Paige is almost ready to go to her forever family 🥹🥰
The best mamma, she is now only nursing three times daily and the brood are all eating kibble float with formula, and puppy canned food for texture. Since arriving with us in May, she has been in my home with our family and dogs, and has adjusted seamlessly. Paige is around 1 year old, is ~55lbs and already full grown. She is a shepherd mix and was rescued from Sandy Lake, a northern Indigenous community while very pregnant.
Paige is perfect for handling, potty trained, has no separation anxiety and is great loose/unattended in the home. She sleeps on her bed most of her free time or lounges in the yard in the sun. She loves to snuggle and be with you, she’s amazing with other animals and children.
Paige loves snackies- treats of any kind she seems to be very happy with. The only no-go so far has been frozen vegetables 😂 she doesn’t get into things unless it’s food packages left within reach, which you can’t really blame her 🙄
We have now reduced her feeding to about 50% which is about 6-8 cups per day to help stop milk production, this will help her mammary size start to reduce as she continues weaning. Her feeding will continue to decrease until normal, (about 3-4 cups per day) Paige is so hungry as she’s used to such large meals, but her body won’t need this many calories anymore which is why we gradually reduce by 1/4 increments
I wipe her teats after each feeding and spot clean any abrasions from her ravenous pups with a diluted chlorohexidine solution. She has been so happy to be just resting comfortably on the cool tile in the hot afternoons.
