💲Please understand what NOT
using cash is doing.

Cash is important. 💸

Why it would be better to pay cash everywhere we can
with banknotes instead of a credit card? 💳

- I have a $50 banknote in my pocket.
Going to a restaurant and paying for dinner with it. The restaurant owner then uses the bill to pay for the laundry. The laundry owner then uses the bill to pay the barber. The barber will then use the bill for shopping.

After an unlimited number of payments, it will still remain a $50, which has fulfilled its purpose to everyone who used it for payment and the bank has jumped dry from every cash payment transaction made...

- But if I come to a restaurant and pay digitally - Card, and bank fees for my payment transaction charged to the seller are 3%, so around $1.50 and so will the fee $1.50 for each further payment transaction or owner re laundry or payments of the owner of the laundry shop, or payments of the barber etc.....

Therefore, after 30 transactions, the initial $50 will remain only $5 😬 and the remaining $45 became the property of the bank 🏦 thanks to all digital transactions and fees.

Small businesses need your help and this is one way to help ourselves too. Pull small draws of cash out at a time and use that instead of tap, credit, etc.

When this is put into perspective, imagine what each retailer is paying on a monthly basis in fees at 3% per transaction through their POS machine.

If they have, for example, $50,000 in sales & 90% are by Card, they are paying $1500 in fees in ONE Month. $18,000 in a year! That comes out of their income every month.

That would go a long way to helping that small business provide for its family!🏦♥️"

I am trying something new this year with the zucchinis. I have seen on YouTube that they prune zucchinis to promote ventalation as well as to better expose the flowers to pollonators. I have pruned off al the leaves that hung on the ground and/or touched another plant. Hopefully it works.

First harvest of the season. This year seems to be a year of strange events. With the weather being so cold and wet, we had a late start in the greenhouse.

The new planting season started in the greenhouse. The temperatures in the greenhouse goes up to 35 degrees C and with the wetness of the ground, the humidity is sky high. So far, I have planted garlic, spinach, swiss chard, pak choy, broccoli, beans, potatoes, peas, sunflowers, cilantro, onions, parsnips and gladiolus. The zucchini and squashes and tomato plants are flourishing in the solarium and will be planted out next weekend. The strawberries are pushing out new growth and is Macie looking forward to picking strawberries.

The storm started moving in on Sunday afternoon. We have not seen a storm like this one since we have moved to the farm. All the roads in our county and the adjacent counties to the north and the east have been closed by OPP. My videos are unfortunately just in Afrikaans as I forgot in the excitement of everything to speak English. However, I am sure you will get the idea.

Hi there all, it is almost mid January and we are only now getting the cold-cold temperatures. The greenhouse is still at zero degrees and I have planted a few things to experiment. I am still very much a rookie, but looking forward to all the new and exiting discoveries.

I have planted a row garlic bulbs, a row garlic bulbous, a row radishes, a row spinach, a row arugula, there is still a row kale from the summer which started to push out new leaves and i have planted cabbage seedlings and seed. I almost forgot about the potatoes! Fingers crossed!

Hi there all. First, I want to wish everyone a happy new year. I pray that your wishes and dreams come true this year.

We had lots and lots happening on the farm since last time I posted. The boiler is in and running temporarily. We had Christmas and was hoping one of the grandbabies made his/her entry, however, I am very sure they know it is very cold out here and decided to stay warm and snug inside.

Macie came to visit us and we had fun with Charlie and the squirrels. More giggles to come with that one.

I will put a few posts up during the next few days to bring you up to date.

Have a lovely evening and stay warm.

I tried to make fruit leather (vrugterol), never made it before, however, in South Africa it is a very popular snack. (At least it was while I was growing up.) I had a lot of apples in the fridge that was not going to make it and thought I would try making fruit leather/fruit roll ups. By the responses I received, I believe it will become a regular item in the pantry. Now to make a peach leather.....

The weekend before Thanksgiving and on the Thanksgiving weekend, our friends, Willie Grobler and Meraai Grobler came over for the weekend. Nico and Willie started working on levelling the site and drilling the holes for the woodshed's pillars. This weekend they cemented the tubes for the woodshed's pillars. That was very hard work and are we thankful for that help. Of course, we had some fun as well.

Once again, it has been awhile since my last post. Nico and Nicolaas Brits started clearing land where we planned to build the boiler-and-woodshed. Of course a few big trees were in the way and had to be processed first. It was hard work and were we thankful that we could work in the shade.
