Meet Harley, a true east end pet! Harley is the sweetest girl who took her job modelling for our photoshoot VERY seriously 🐾

Harley’s favourite things are: long walks on the beach, swimming in the lake, finding the best chew stick and her toy panda 🐼

Some sweet client love 💕 ⬇️

“Dr. Matt is an incredibly kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable vet. He helped us navigate one of our family’s most difficult times when our beloved golden retriever rescue was diagnosed with cancer.

Dr. Matt took the time to answer all of our questions and supported us through every decision that had to be made.
He had our golden’s and our family’s best interest at heart.

He now takes great care of senior our Bernese Collie mix and our newest rescue puppy. We are beyond fortunate to have Dr. Matt as our vet!”

As we start to see the first buds of spring arise, we may also see the first signs of spring allergies within our pets 🐾🌷

Pets tend to show similar symptoms of seasonal allergies as their human companions.

Here are a few symptoms to watch out for as the weather begins to turn ☀️

•Excessive shedding
•Compulsive licking of paws (in dogs)
•Chronic ear infections/ red waxy ears
•Scratching or biting at their coat
•Red inflamed skin

If your pet is beginning to show signs of seasonal allergies, it is best to connect with your veterinarian to work on an allergy protocol that is right for them 💕

Meet Our Vets: Dr Matt Spiegle 🐾⬇️

A second-generation veterinarian, Dr. Matt spent the better part of his life working in the veterinary field with all different types of animals, but his dream was always to open a small animal practice in a community that he loved.

After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2008 with Dr. Lara, Dr. Matt went on to work in several busy small animal practices, forming strong bonds with his patients and their families. Matt also spent several years working for a pet health nutrition company as well as the Medical Director for a veterinary telemedicine platform.

Dr. Matt takes learnings from all of his diverse experience to work closely with pet parents to help their pets live their best lives through access to proper veterinary care, preventative medicine and individualized treatment plans using a team-based approach.

Dr. Matt hopes that EEV will be a pillar of the Beaches community through empowering our staff, providing compassionate care and helping to train the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Meet Our Vets: Dr Lara Zahra DVM 🐾⬇️

Raised with an innate love for nature and animals, Dr Lara had aspirations of becoming a veterinarian for as long as she can remember.

As a child and teenager, when she wasn’t playing soccer, Dr. Lara spent her summers pet sitting and working at veterinary clinics soaking up as much experience as she could before starting vet school at the Ontario Veterinary College.

(Fun fact: Dr Lara and Dr Matt were classmates in vet school 😊)

In the 16 years after graduating vet school, Dr. Lara lived and worked in New Zealand, practised in Southern Ontario, found her passion in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) soft tissue surgery and became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.

Dr. Lara loves mentoring, building life long relationships with clients and their pets and providing compassionate care.

Q: Does my pet need an annual wellness exam?

A: By scheduling an annual wellness exam for your pet, your veterinarian is able to monitor your pets health, assess for early signs of disease and make sure their health is on the right track. Preventative medicine is the best medicine 🩺

Our furry friends can’t tell us how they’re feeling, regular wellness check-ups allow your veterinarian to detect small signs, like changes in breathing, heart rate, eye and ear infections, lumps + bumps and even minor swellings.

Keep in mind, younger pets will need to see the vet more frequently to stay up to date with routine vaccines. Older pets may also require more care, this is a wellness plan you can work with your veterinarian on.

If you’re looking to get priorty booking on those wellness exams when we open, head to the link in our bio to join our waitlist 💕🐾

February is Pet Dental Health Month 🦷💕

Like humans, your pet’s overall health is directly related to their dental health. It’s much easier to prevent dental disease compared to waiting and treating significant disease!

Here are the top 3 tips from our vets Dr. Lara and
Dr. Matt

🦷 Brush at least every other day, with a pet specific toothpaste. Anything less than that doesn’t have a significant impact.

🦷 Think about vet approved dental diets, supplements and chews as they can help remove plaque and tartar and help improve your pet’s breath

🦷 Speak to your vet about your pet’s specific needs! Each pet is an individual and their dental needs vary based on their breed, age and individual oral health.

Big smiles all around! We can’t wait to see your pets pearly whites when our doors open 🐈🐕
