We are taking names for our next Reactive Rover Class - which is held Monday nights at 6pm. This is a group class for dogs who display reactivity (over-arousal, aggression, excitement, etc.) to other dogs or people while on leash.
It is a 5 Week Program. Starting June 24th.
Does your dog react in an unwanted manner toward a given stimulus while on a leash? One of the most common examples is a dog that, when leashed, barks or growls as another canine approaches.
If left untreated, leash reactivity can develop into a long-term and chronic problem as fear develops into anxiety and stress. There is also a risk of redirection of the aggression, where the dog unpredictably turns their aggression on other animals or people, potentially causing harm.
Leash reactivity is caused by a variety of factors, including fear, anxiety, lack of socialization, and past negative experiences. Dogs that have not been properly socialized with other dogs and humans are more likely to develop confinement/leash reactivity, as they may feel threatened, nervous, or uncomfortable when they encounter people or other dogs. This feeling increases when the stimulus or trigger moves closer into your dog’s comfort zone.
Please email Kaila ([email protected]) if you would like to get on the List.

Imagine an employee who shows up faithfully day after day, always with a smile on his face and effortlessly capable of putting others in a good mood. A worker who never tires of the work, who patiently mentors the younger and less responsible members of his team, and who asks for nothing but yummy snacks in return. Impossible, you say? We say no, this was just Indy.
Indy joined the team at Truro Veterinary Hospital in May 2008, working hard from a very early age to learn the ropes of his new job. Together with his mom, Kaila, he mastered all of the skills and tricks she could think up, and then worked hard to help other dogs learn them as well. Over the years Indy happily earned his Cheese Whiz and liver treats helping countless young puppies learn to become better citizens of their communities.
Indy’s calm, joyful presence in a room could bring smiles to the saddest of moments. He was truly kind to everyone around him. Everyone who has met him can picture Indy seated at Kaila’s feet, staring up at her adoringly, waiting for his next task (and his next treat).
Indy’s dedication to the clients and pets at Truro Vet never wavered. He worked with a broken toe, with Lyme disease, and even following not one, but two complicated knee surgeries. He had even had two close brushes with cancer during his years of employment, but nothing could stop him from his appointed role by Kaila’s side.
Indy’s employment at Truro Vet ended in January 2023, when he was lost to cancer. The sadness we feel is unspeakable – his loss is mourned by the entire Truro Vet community. After 15 years of dedicated service, there is an Indy-shaped hole in our hearts. Indy, you touched the lives of so many people and pets, now all that is left for us to say is “Thank you. Rest well – you deserve it”.
Today we remember Indy - he would have been 15 today. So on the day of his birth we remember his life.
March 28th, 2008 - January 29th, 2023.
