We are now taking Enrollment for our Puppy Classes.

We are taking names for our next Reactive Rover Class - which is held Monday nights at 6pm. This is a group class for dogs who display reactivity (over-arousal, aggression, excitement, etc.) to other dogs or people while on leash.

It is a 5 Week Program. Starting June 24th.

Does your dog react in an unwanted manner toward a given stimulus while on a leash? One of the most common examples is a dog that, when leashed, barks or growls as another canine approaches.

If left untreated, leash reactivity can develop into a long-term and chronic problem as fear develops into anxiety and stress. There is also a risk of redirection of the aggression, where the dog unpredictably turns their aggression on other animals or people, potentially causing harm.

Leash reactivity is caused by a variety of factors, including fear, anxiety, lack of socialization, and past negative experiences. Dogs that have not been properly socialized with other dogs and humans are more likely to develop confinement/leash reactivity, as they may feel threatened, nervous, or uncomfortable when they encounter people or other dogs. This feeling increases when the stimulus or trigger moves closer into your dog’s comfort zone.

Please email Kaila ([email protected]) if you would like to get on the List.

Changes are coming to our municipal dog tags system! Beginning May 1st, we transitioned from annual tags to lifetime tags for your furry friends. This means no more yearly renewals. Residents can now conveniently purchase these lifetime tags online or at the County office (1 Church St., Truro). Each tag will cost $25. This change aims to streamline the process and make it easier for pet owners to ensure their pets are properly identified. Thank you for your cooperation as we implement these improvements.

Tags can be purchased at: www.colchester.ca/dog-tags
