đŸWhatâs in my treat pouch? đŸ
Fear free dog training means that tasty snacks are a requirement! My awesome friends at @globalongrant asked for my favourite treat recommendations and here they are!
đ©· LOW VALUE - I always recommend using your dogâs meals for training as much as possible. If you have a pickier dog you can always switch it up with a different protein for training! I like using a kibble thatâs different than one I use at meal times with my own pups when we are out on walks. I have been using @openfarmpet kibble because I love the traceable ingredients. Using low value treats at home makes those yummy treats even more valuable when youâre training in harder environments!
đ©· MID VALUE - I have been OBSESSED with the @vitalessentialsraw Protein Mix-Ins. I work with so many dogs with allergies and these are literally just one single protein. These are great to use if youâre working through an elimination diet as well with your dog! The best part is that they are freeze-dried and donât crumble and fall apart. They are the BEST for training!
đ©· HIGH VALUE - If youâve worked with me, you know I love @rollover_premium_pet_food as treats! All the dogs I work with will take Rollover, even if they donât want hot dogs or cheese. This is also a balanced pet food so it makes it easier to cut back on meals while also ensuring your dog is getting everything they need from their diet.
đ©· HIGHEST VALUE - For a lot of dogs, wet food is the highest value. Some dogs take some time to learn how to eat it out of a tube so I recommend introducing that at home. Licking is also calming for dogs, so this is a great option for continual feeding.
I recommend switching up your treats on occasion to keep things interesting for your dog. I try and switch up the proteins of the treats I use every month with my training clients - itâs usually the dogâs favourite day. All of these snacks are available at Global on Grant! They have everything youâll need to set your dog up to succe
Todayâs Paws in Progress group focused on calmness and engagement in a new place! By the end of the session all of these dogs were able to walk together with distractions from other dogs and people in the community as well as some loud cheering for our Winnipeg Goldeyes!
đĄDID YOU KNOW? Paws in Progress is a program available to all Hopeful Dog Training class graduates! This program works to further training with your dog and generalize their skills to new environments. They are offered monthly for $25+GST for the hour!

Jack and I found a dry area of grass to play ball, but I chose to put the ball away to walk through the ice for safety purposes. He thought that was dumb and found something else for me to throw. đ€Ł

Leash reactivity can be complex and requires a solid understanding of dog body language in order to prevent reactions and help a dog disengage.
There are many ways to work with a reactive dog - this is just one way that may help a dog be successful around their triggers!
