Evening all
I’m Sorry this will be a long post but sharing news and information is something we at Groomer Has it value
Of late we have seen a huge increase of Flea infestation in dog’s which for any dog owner these are probably “dreaded words”.
As a business we genuinely do pride ourselves on the care of every pet who visit’s us and we do have procedures and policies in place to protect every animal whilst in our care.
One of which is a policy on Flea’s and other parasite’s.
Should your pet arrive at the Salon with fleas or other parasites we will refuse to groom them
until a treatment program at home is in place.
Please understand this is not because we do not want to groom your dog’s, of course we do, it’s why we do what we do. It is simply because the risk of Fleas infesting another pet in the salon is too high.
Should we find Fleas or Ticks on your pet during the grooming process we will notify the owner who can either collect their pet straight away or we do charge to remove them this includes a flea bath, an isolated groom and a thorough examination to ensure a Flea free coat before being sent home.
Rest assured i follow a really strict treatment program in the Salon as part of our cleaning procedures at a huge cost to me. There for should we find Flea’s on any Pet we do charge a fee to fumigate the Salon and flea bath your pet to ensure the Salon remains safe for all.
Here are a few facts you may or may not be aware of when it comes to flea’s
⭐️ A large amount of Dog’s die from Flea infestation every year
⭐️ A female Flea can lay upto 40 eggs per day after a viable blood feed
⭐️ Fleas do not stay on your pet, when Flea’s are found on a pet a whopping 90% of the population live in the surrounding environment
⭐️ you can treat and eliminate a flea problem
⭐️ Fleas can bite humans but can not survive on us
⭐️ fleas can “hitchhike” on pet’s, clothing and shoe’s
⭐️ if a Flea was the size of a human they could jump the length of a football pitch
⭐️ Flea’s have an accurate aim and can land on a moving object
⭐️ Flea’s are two dimentional which means when seen on a pet they appear to be running on their side, which can make them difficult to catch and kill.
⭐️ the only way to kill a flea with your Fingers is to crack it between two finger nails
⭐️ Flea egg’s do not have a sticky exterior like hair Lice in people and will fall off your pet where ever your Pet visit’s
⭐️ Flea’s can not survive really high temperature’s or really low temperature’s for a long duration of time
Please bare in mind the only way to treat a Flea problem is to use a Veterinary strength topical spot on every four week’s and a strict routine at home of washing soft furnishing’s at 40 degree’s, hoovering and using a Flea spray with an IGR (insect growth regulator) to spray any area’s as instructed by the manufacturer around the home.
On the shelf Flea Treatment’s are not strong enough to treat Flea infestation’s hence why they are general sale in stores that sell pet product’s and you may still notice Flea’s on your pet.
Licensed Medicine’s are prescription only hence why they can only be purchased from a vet or Suitable Qualified person (SQP)
A Flea lifecycle has four stages:
Egg
Larvae
Pupae
Adult
It will take time to break down the lifecycle within a home, hence why Flea’s can still be seen on a Pet week’s after a treatment has been administered. It does not mean the treatment is not working, these will be newly hatched adults that will be looking to feed on your pet to start the lifecycle over again.
Using a veterinary strength Flea treatment every month all year round will not only protect your pet in future preventing future infestation but is the ONLY way to erradicate Flea’s for good.
Always’s ask for advice from professionals when it comes to using medicines on your pet, so the right treatment can be prescribed for the right animal, weight and age.
As always we are always here to help 😊
