What Henry Did Next
Sine we last heard from Henry he has been doing really well with his toilet training and has started going to puppy training classes - this video is one of his first retrieves which Henry did at home.
Puppy classes are a great way to socialise your new pup and help them to learn how to interact correctly with other dogs as well as obedience and lead work etc. If you have a 'working' type of dog like Henry it will also help them to use their natural instincts of working, seeking and retrieving.
Using 'treats' is a really important part of your puppy's development and learning. Treats can be food, attention, playing with a toy etc. Every time your pup shows desirable or good behaviour, that you want to encourage, it is important to treat them immediately. IT's really handy to have lots of little puppy treats or food in accessible areas around the house - but out of pups reach obviously! Treating is a way of positively reinforcing good behaviour.
When toilet training you should always accompany your puppy outside and once they have relieved themselves you should treat them straight away. Do not wait until they come back inside otherwise they will associate the treat with coming inside and not for toileting outside. All puppies will have accidents or show undesirable behaviour. These should be ignored.
If you have any questions about training your puppy then please call us at any of the practices to discuss.
