If you caught this morning's Equine Health Week 2024 podcast episode on taking a holistic approach to horse care, you'll have heard Ben Benson Farrier sharing some fascinating facts about horses' hooves and how to care for them.

Here are just a few of his top tips for winter hoofcare...

💧 Pick out hooves every day to remove mud and stones – wet mud carries moisture into the hoof wall, then wicks it out again as it dries.

💧 Apply a topical hoof dressing before turnout – this will help to protect the hooves from moist conditions.

💧 Keep moisture levels as consistent as possible – wet hooves can be as much as a quarter of an inch wider than dry hooves.

💧 Book farrier visits every four to six weeks to maintain a consistent hoof balance, or every four to five weeks if you’re competing regularly.

Exciting news! Lara Dixon is off to The London International Horse Show to compete in the Services jumping. All her hardwork, dedication and resilience has paid off.
We can’t wait for the yard jolly to support her at the show.
