Take advantage of our special, limited-time offer and receive a full re-start on your pet's vaccinations for the price of a booster!

Vaccination helps to protect your pet from a number of serious and highly infectious diseases.

🐶 For dogs, this includes: parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis and hepatitis.
🐱 For cats, this includes: feline leukaemia, flu and enteritis.

Vaccination works by priming their immune system so that if they come into contact with the disease later, their body is better able to fight back.

Preventive care is the best care! There's never been a better time to get your pet back on track with their vaccinations. Take advantage of this special offer and save up to 28%!

We've made the shortlist in the Pet & Animal Care Awards 2024 in the Business Awards UK! 🤩 This is for the Most Positive Community Impact Award.

These are just some of the ways we're proud to support our local community:

⭐️ Our NEW @ Home Vet Nurse Service

A first of its kind in the Barnsley area, our Veterinary Nurses have been hitting the road and vising our customers & their pets in their own homes. We’ve found this is ideal for members of the local community who for whatever reason may have difficulty bringing their pets into practice. Customers can expect the same gold-standard care in the comfort of their home environment, where our team are able to offer a wide selection of services & procedures. We’ve already received lots of positive feedback on this new service from local residents!

⭐️ Supporting local charities

Our Barnsley team undertake a regular collection of donated food, toys, coats and bedding and distribute these to local animal rescue charities. Local charities we support include BARC (Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity), Willow Dog Rescue and our local branches of Cat’s Protection and RSPCA.

⭐️ Pet bereavement counselling

We understand how distressing the loss of a much-loved pet can be to process. Our Head Nurse Jacq is a trained bereavement counsellor, and she is able to provide bereaved pet parents with a free counselling session to support them at this difficult time. We can facilitate these sessions over the phone or face-to-face in a quiet, private area of our Barnsley practice.

⭐️ Dog, cat AND rabbit-friendly clinic accreditations!

Our Barnsley team are delighted to have been awarded silver cat-friendly clinic status by the ISFM (International Society of Feline Medicine). More recently, we’ve also become an accredited silver-level rabbit-friendly practice by the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund, AND a certified dog-friendly clinic, as assessed by Dog’s Trust and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA).
To achieve these accreditations, we’ve implemented various improvements in our surgery so our local community of dog, cat and rabbit owners (who make up the vast majority of our customer base) can bring their pets into practice, confident in the knowledge their needs have been fully considered.

⭐️ Pet behaviour consultations

To support our local community of pet parents, we’ve recently introduced a pet behaviour service! All our Barnsley customers will be able to take full advantage of this new service, which includes a pre-consult questionnaire (so our team can fully understand the challenges before the customer comes in), a 1-hour consult with our trained pet behaviourist, a written report with an action plan and a follow-up phone call to check on the pet’s progress.

⭐️ Fair value pricing

We understand the financial challenges created by the cost of living crisis. We’re proud to offer excellent value for money, with absolutely no compromise on the level of service or care our customers & their pets receive. In addition to our fair value, standard pricing, to support the over 60s in our community, we offer 10% discount every Wednesday and Thursday. Customers can use this discount against surgery costs, treatments, medication and products purchased in clinic.

⭐️ Open Day fun!

Who could forget our Open Day? This went down an absolute storm and we had an excellent turnout from our local community. We hosted a raffle and organised a bake sale to raise money for BARC (Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity), offered free Nurse health checks, behind the scenes surgery tours and the opportunity to chat with members of our team.

⭐️ Hosting interesting talks

Last October, our Barnsley team hosted an evening event for the local community, providing them with advice on how to prepare their pet and keep them calm ahead of Bonfire Night. We know this is something many of our customers worry about, particularly if their pet has previously shown signs of firework anxiety, so we organised this talk to provide them with advice on how to best manage Bonfire Night nerves and put their pets at ease. There will be more talks like this to come throughout 2024 on a range of topics tailored to our customers’ needs.

⭐️ Inspiring the next generation

Our Barnsley colleagues have had some fantastic experiences going into our local primary school and speaking to the children about what it’s like to work in a veterinary surgery. The children even get involved by practicing their bandaging skills and pretending to scrub in for theatre!

You may have seen talk in the news recently about high levels of problem behaviours in lockdown pups and the use of aversive training methods: https://www.rvc.ac.uk/research/facilities-and-resources/animal-welfare-science-and-ethics/news/the-pawfect-storm-study-finds-high-levels-of-problem-behaviours-and-use-of-aversive-training-methods-in-pandemic-puppies

Here's what our RVN & Pet Behaviourist Rachel Green has to say:

"Lockdown was a tough time for everyone, and a lot of people turned to puppies for company and entertainment. Unfortunately, due to the closure of in-person classes, many puppies didn't receive any professional training.

"The results of this study is quite typical of what I would expect. With increasing levels of punishment, a dog will become fearful of their owner and the bond will be damaged, negatively reducing their trust - especially when it comes to training.

"Owners should focus on positive reinforcement to encourage the good behaviours to happen more often. The use of treats while training to cement these desired behaviours also helps to build confidence and engagement with the owner.

"Owners who attend puppy classes are properly advised on how to handle their dog and what equipment to use. This is especially important for first time dog owners. I would highly recommend all dog owners, even experienced ones, go to puppy classes or seek a trainer for proper socialisation and obedience training. Trainers or behaviourists should be registered with the APBC or ABTC. If in doubt an owner should check first with the trainer running the class that they are fully qualified and registered."
