IMPORTANT 🐾

The new rules set out by the government mean cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date on a compliant pet microchipping database.

All owners must have their cat microchipped by 10 June 2024 and owners found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500.

Unfortunately due to me breaking my foot yesterday I will be out of action for a number of weeks as I'm unable to drive. I recently had the pleasure of microchipping these beautiful babies.

I was asked to microchip Biscuit after he escaped home and took himself on a little adventure. Whilst I was there I scanned his brother and sister and discovered they weren't chipped. Their owner was led to believe they had been chipped by the vets during neutering years ago, however after a call to the vets it appears they did not carry out the microchipping procedure for either cat. This is very concerning and obviously distressing for their owner. Luckily both are mostly indoor cats but that is not the point. The vets should also be routinely scanning at every appointment, had this happened it would have been discovered sooner that neither cats were chipped. All three are now chipped and registered and should they ever go missing they can be reunited swiftly via their microchips



It is important to have your pets scanned regularly to ensure a) they are chipped b) chip still working.

Make sure your pets are microchipped and that the chip is registered on the relevant database so that in the event they are missing they can be reunited swiftly. You also need to ensure your details are correctly registered and kept upto. ie if you move home.

Moving home can be a stressful time and it's easy to forget to update your pets chip details when you have a million and one other things on your todo list. Always make sure you add 'chip update' to your to-do list. Your furry family member is important too and in the event they escape from their new home they can be reunited swiftly.
