๐Ÿ’™ We are now closed ๐Ÿ’™

We would like to take a moment to thank all our clients who have shown amazing support since the sudden announcement of the closure of the My Vet Hydro centre, which not only came as a shock to the team but to you all - without everyone's support and kind words we don't think we could have gotten through it as well as we did. The past three weeks have flown by and today at 4pm we closed the My Vet Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation Center doors for the last time ๐Ÿ’™

Many of you have been asking where we are all going! Well as one door closes.. another one opens..

โœจ As some of you may already know Lucy Megan Sullivan is staying within the industry working with both small animal and equine ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Some of you may also know Gabby McCorkindale is currently setting up a new venture within the industry at her kennels in Charnock Richard with the view of opening in September ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Natasha Kerr is off to Lanzarote on Monday with her family and has accepted a position outside of the animal world - which she never thought she would do! She is off to the world of music, festivals, TV shows and production and is hoping to put her business degree to good use - very excited about the new adventure! ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Hannah Thompson is very much loving life as a mummy of 2 and is continuing her maternity leave at least until the new year! We are all madly in love with baby and are looking forward to watching her and her big brother grow up together! ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Joanna Daley has taken on some locum work at a local hydro centre in Preston next week and is venturing into dog walking in Whalley and surrounding areas! She already has a few clients so if anyone is looking for a dog walker please do send her a message! ๐Ÿ’™

Please feel free to contact any of us about anything as we will miss you all so much โœจ

Once again we want to thank every client that has been to us over the past 7 years, your support is everything โœจ

So as we always say...

It's not goodbye, it's see you soon ๐Ÿ’™

Love Tash, Hannah, Lucy, Gabby & Joanna x

๐Ÿ’œโœจ๐Ÿ’œ Goodbye Lucy ๐Ÿ’œโœจ๐Ÿ’œ

Today we said goodbye to our much loved therapist Lucy โœจ

Today has been a very emotional day as Lucy has been with My Vet Hydro from the very start and has built this place up from the ground; I'm sure we will all agree she has made a great impact on all of ours and our pets lives and she will be greatly missed by everyone!

Lucy would like to thank everyone who has shown their support and thanks, whether it be verbal or through a card and a gift! Lucy is now off on a much needed family holiday tomorrow to celebrate her youngest's 2nd birthday and to enjoy being a mummy๐Ÿ’œ

From the bottom of all our hearts from the team at My Vet Hydro, we will miss you so much โœจ

But as you say - it's not goodbye, it's see you soon!

Tash, Hannah, Gabby & Joanna ๐Ÿ’œโœจ

๐Ÿ˜– PAIN INDICATORS ๐Ÿค•

We often assume that a dog in pain would limp or yelp or cry/wimper but this isn't always the case. In actual fact the signs of pain can be much more subtle and can include;

๐Ÿ”นStiffness
๐Ÿ”นSleeping more
๐Ÿ”นDifficultly getting comfortable or being restless
๐Ÿ”นHesitating when performing "normal" tasks
๐Ÿ”นSlowing down on walks or being more reluctant
๐Ÿ”นChanges in body shape
๐Ÿ”นPosture changes
๐Ÿ”นLicking the joints
๐Ÿ”นBehaviour changes
๐Ÿ”นDifficultly toileting
๐Ÿ”นDeveloping phobias
๐Ÿ”นNoise sensitivity
๐Ÿ”นCoat changes (differences in patterns/direction of fur)
๐Ÿ”นPanting
๐Ÿ”นLoss of appetite
๐Ÿ”นLow head carriage
๐Ÿ”นAsymmetrical wear to the nails (sometimes due to dragging the feet)
๐Ÿ”นDecreased tolerance to handling
๐Ÿ”นLow mood
๐Ÿ”นAnxiety

Unfortunately the list is not exhaustive but we hope it gives you an idea of the wide range of ways in which pain can present itself and what you should look out for. If you are concerned about changes in your dog or cat you should always seek professional advice and mention these changes to your vet or therapist.

๐Ÿ’Cherrys journey ๐Ÿ’

It's been a while since we updated you about Cherry! Cherry has continued to progress steadily over the past 6 weeks continuing with both laser and a mix of pool and underwater treadmill sessions weekly - she has maintained a good 6 minutes walking but they have become more controlled!

We are continuing to work with Cherry and are hoping for maintenance in her levels or even better another minute! We can't believe how quickly Cherry has come on and we are looking forward to seeing what we can do for her in the future! Even if she does need some squeaky toy encouragement โšพ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ– OBESITY AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT ๐Ÿ—

Obesity is an increasing problem amongst the canine population. It is thought that 1/5 dogs are classified as obese. When a dog is >15% over its ideal weight, or it is impossible to feel their ribs through fur, skin and body tissue, they are considered obese. Many factors contribute to the likelihood of a dog becoming obese; breed, lifestyle, s*x, age, diet, genetic makeup and whether they have been neutered.

An overweight dog may have a significantly reduced life expectancy and is at a greater risk of many serious and life-changing conditions including;
๐Ÿ’™ Diabetes
๐Ÿ’™ Cardio and respiratory problems
๐Ÿ’™ Cardiovascular disease
๐Ÿ’™ Reduction in immunity making them more susceptible to infections and other illnesses
๐Ÿ’™ Osteoarticular diseases such as arthritis

Excess weight increases the mechanical forces that joints are subjected to. For dogs that have an injury or disease such as osteoarthritis this exacerbates pain and contributes to the disease. Fat tissue contains inflammatory mediators that also aggravate pain, these chemicals and hormones are secreted into the body activating inflammatory signalling pathways. Obese dogs are also more likely to lack motivation, energy and become lethargic, couple that with increased pain and a vicious circle is started.

Prevention is absolutely better than cure, it is difficult to lose weight because the bodyโ€™s metabolic resistance naturally prevents it. With a weight loss plan in place though it is possible. Calorie intake is key, to lose weight the dog must be using more calories than it is taking in, this means carefully measuring the amount of food you are giving your pet. Whilst exercise contributes to only 20% of potential weight loss it is an important aspect but it must be within the dogโ€™s capabilities. For an obese dog with mobility issues hydrotherapy can be a safe and low impact way for them to exercise.
