Are you aware of blue-green algae?

What you need to know:

⚠️ Blue-green algae are tiny bacteria found in
still, nutrient-rich water.
⚠️ They produce toxins harmful to dogs; about
half of exposed dogs die.
⚠️ Most poisonings occur from drinking or
swimming in freshwater lakes and ponds.
Symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, muscle
tremors, and seizures can appear within an
hour.
⚠️ Prevent poisoning by avoiding risky areas,
checking algae warnings, and rinsing dogs after
swimming.

🌞It's forecast to be really warm this week, so please keep your animals cool and make extra effort to keep them out of the sun in the middle of the day. 🌞

If you have an appointment please try and avoid walking to us during the warmer parts of the day.

We have uploaded a few images with some top tips to keep your animals cool and signs that you should look out for that require immediate attention from the vet. 🌞

🐰It’s important your bunnies live a happy, healthy life. Vaccinating your rabbits is the most important measure you can take to protect them. They can be injected from five weeks old and they’ll need boosters every year. The yearly vaccination is against Myxomatosis and two strains of Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD). Do this and you’re doing your bit to keep your rabbits at their best.🐰

Our pet health club plan is £15.99 per month and includes these annual vaccinations, parasite protection and much more. 🐰🥕

🟢 May is Vet Nurse awareness month, and we thought we’d show you some of the things nurses can do 🟢

Did you know that veterinary nurses and student veterinary nurses, under the direction of a veterinary surgeon, are able to carry out dental hygiene work?

One of our registered nurses, Becky (Angus’ Mum) scaled and polished Angus’ teeth, and they are now lovely and white 🦷

Scroll for Angus being a good boy during his recovery from general anaesthetic ❤️‍🩹

Vets and nurses are required to complete a certain amount of CPD (continuing professional development) annually in order to maintain their RCVS membership and practice as a registered professional. This helps to make sure that our knowledge remains up to date.

To help towards this requirement, we are lucky to have representatives from a variety of organisations come in to practice and teach useful information about different aspects of the veterinary industry, for example: nutrition, medication or parasite control.

Today, our staff pet Django was enjoying learning about different diets and their nutritional benefits for certain medical conditions. 🐶🍽️

Bruce, the 4-week-old Jack Russell terrier cross. He came in after being involved in an accident whereby there was a possibility he had injured his legs. Due to his age, it was decided that an X-ray would be useful because before growth plates fully develop and mature into harder bone matter, they can be very vulnerable to injury. 🩻🦴

Growth plates are the area of active new bone near the end of the long bones. These plates are made up of cartilage. Over time, this will calcify and develop into denser matter, determining the length and shape of the adult bones. 🦴

The X-rays did not show any fractures to his growth plates, and he is doing really well after his little visit to us. 🥰

We thought we would share these X-rays with you as it is fascinating to see how a puppy's bones appear before maturing into adulthood. 🐶🦴
